During 1993-2011, cefotaxime resistance among Salmonella enterica isolates from patients in Finland increased substantially. Most of these infections originated in Thailand; many were qnr positive and belonged to S. enterica serovar Typhimurium and S. enterica monophasic serovar 4,[5],12:i:-. Although cefotaxime-resistant salmonellae mainly originate in discrete geographic areas, they represent...

Boronic acid transition state inhibitors (BATSIs) with R1 side chains of cefotaxime and ceftazidime were assayed against SHV-1, SHV-2, SHV-5, D104K, and D104K G238S beta-lactamases. The D104K variant was the most susceptible to inhibition by the ceftazidime BATSI (Ki, 730+/-80 nM), while the D104K G238S variant was the most susceptible to the cefotaxime BATSI (Ki, 1.1+/-0.2 microM).

The in vitro bactericidal interactions of penicillin G, cefotaxime, or vancomycin in combination with gentamicin were compared against 20 group G streptococci by the timed kill curve method. Synergy was noted at the following frequencies: penicillin plus gentamicin, 80%; cefotaxime plus gentamicin, 85%; vancomycin plus gentamicin, 90%. There was no bactericidal antagonism observed.

A study of the susceptibility to cefotaxime and six other cephalosporins in 213 nonselected strains of nine different bacterial species clearly showed that cefotaxime was the most active against aerobic gram-negative bacilli. The same pattern emerged with 84 cephalothin-resistant strains of five enterobacterial species, but the mean minimal inhibitory concentration values for all cephalosporins...

Ceftriaxone (Ro 13-9904) was compared with other newer beta-lactam antibiotics for activity in experimental infections of mice with Enterobacteriaceae, Haemophilus influenzae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and gram-positive bacteria. Overall, ceftriaxone was equal or superior to cefotaxime and cefoperazone against systemic infections. All three drugs were highly potent against most organisms but were...

The levels of cefmenoxime (SCE-1365) [7 beta-[2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-[Z]-2-methoxyiminoacetamido]-3-[(1-methyl-1H-tetr azol-5-yl)thiomethyl]ceph-3-em-4-carboxylic acid] and cefotaxime [7 beta-[2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-[Z]-2-methoxyiminoacetamido]-3-acetoxymethyl-ceph -3-em-4-carboxylic acid] in plasma and tissues, and the excretion in urine and bile of experimental animals were compared. A sing...

Increasing penicillin resistance and the initial recognition of resistance to extended-spectrum cephalosporins among Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates have placed greater emphasis on accurate methods for susceptibility testing of clinical isolates. This study has evaluated the use of the E test (AB Biodisk NA, Piscataway, N.J.) for the detection of penicillin and cefotaxime resistance among 147...

This work presents the results of on determination a pollutant in model solution, antibiotic cefotaxime, using spectrophotometric method. In several series experiments, minimum concentrations cefotaxime solutions that can be detected with spectrophotometer PE-5400 UV were established; feature was revealed - increase optical density peak samples when pH is shifted to an acidic environment, espec...

The checkerboard titration method was used to test the synergy of cefpirome and cefotaxime with teicoplanin or vancomycin against 35 penicillin-susceptible, 34 penicillin-intermediate, and 31 penicillin-resistant pneumococci. The MICs at which 50 and 90% of isolates are inhibited (MIC50s and MIC90s, respectively) of both cefpirome and cefotaxime were 0.016 and 0.06 microgram/ml, respectively, f...

Preterm premature rupture of the membranes is associated with a high risk of neonatal sepsis. An increase in the incidence of early-onset neonatal sepsis due to ampicillin-resistant Escherichia coli in premature infants has been observed in the past few years. Intrapartum prophylaxis with ampicillin has proven to be efficient for the prevention of early neonatal sepsis due to group B streptococ...
