This paper is to describe the PolyteCS simulation team. PolyteCS is the result of 15 months of research in RoboCup Simulation Research Lab. Our main goal in this project is to develop a multi-agent system based on fast and improved methods of learning and deciding in cooperative planning .We also introduce a new concept to make heterogeneous agents. To achieve this, PolyteCS uses case-based rea...

This commentary succinctly summarizes work in integrating case-based reasoning (CBR) with other reasoning modalities. Including CBR in mixed mode approaches promotes synergies and benefits beyond those achievable using CBR or other individual reasoning approaches alone. Numerous examples of hybrid systems, with pointers to significant references, are provided.

This paper presents GENA, a case-based reasoning system capable of generating audio-visual narratives by drawing from previously annotated content. Broadcast networks spend a large amount of resources in covering many events and many different types of audiences. However, it is not reasonable for them to cover smaller events or audiences, for which the cost would be greater than the potential b...

Case-Based Reasoning has been studied as a methodology to support ratings-based collaborative recommendation, but this predominantly targets the context of an individual end-user. There are, however, many circumstances where several people participating together in a group activity could benefit from recommendations tailored to the group as a whole. Group recommendation has received comparative...

Two key objectives of conversational case-based reasoning (CCBR) systems are (1) eliciting case facts in a manner that minimizes the user’s burden in terms of resources such as time, information cost, and cognitive load, and (2) integrating CBR with other problem solving modalities. This paper proposes an architecture that addresses both these goals by integrating CBR with a discourse-oriented ...

A challenge for any case-based reasoning system is how to acquire the cases with which to reason. Here we explore acquiring cases via natural language instruction by a person. We show how, using microstories (1-3 sentence stories) expressed in simplified English syntax, small cases – called common sense units – can be incrementally added to improve analogical reasoning performance.

This paper presents a prototype of case-based reasoning, built for the agricultural domain. Its aim is to forecast the allocation of a new energy crop, the miscanthus. Interviews were conducted with french farmers in order to know how they make their decisions. Based on interview analysis, a case base and a rule base have been formalized, together with similarity and adaptation knowledge. Furth...

Although the elaboration of the case representation is the key problem of the case-based reasoning system conception, there exists no proven methodology targeted to this task. This paper is a contribution to fill this gap in the maintenance domain, more precisely in the equipments diagnostic and repair help. A methodology to elaborate the case representation is proposed based on knowledge manag...

— Across Latin America 420 indigenous languages are spoken. Spanish is considered a second language in indigenous communities and is progressively introduced in education. However, most of the tools to support teaching processes of a second language have been developed for the most common languages such as English, French, German, Italian, etc. As a result, only a small amount of learning objec...
