We report a case of successful intravenous thrombolysis for a distal middle cerebral artery occlusion shortly after traumatic cardiopulmonary resuscitation due to an episode of ventricular tachycardia. A high prevalence of fatal cardiac arrhythmias in acute stroke patients raises the question of safety when administrating thrombolytic therapy after traumatic cardiopulmonary resuscitation; guide...
BACKGROUND Pneumoperitoneum after cardiopulmonary resuscitation may be due to mediastinal air tracking into the peritoneal cavity via the diaphragmatic hiatus or to gastric perforation. CASE REPORT A 79-year-old woman received Advanced Cardiac Life Support measures in the intensive care unit. Chest compressions and endotracheal intubation were performed; a stable cardiac rhythm and perfusion ...

BACKGROUND Regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) as assessed by near infrared frontal cerebral spectroscopy decreases in circulatory arrest and increases with high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation. We hypothesized that higher rSO2 during cardiopulmonary resuscitation and after return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) would predict survival to discharge and neurological recovery. MET...
Introduction: The effect of the presence of trained personnel in the team on the outcome of resuscitation has been proved in previous studies. An informative need assessment, in the environment of present study, reveals the role of the nurses’ knowledge in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Therefore, this study was designed to determine the effect of education through workshop on nurses’ sus...
The use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is controversial. Recently allegations of age discrimination have been made. Revised guidance from the British Medical Association, Royal College of Nursing and the Resuscitation Council (UK) provides valuable help, including implications of the Human Rights Act 1998 and the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000. Patients do not have rights to...
This article describes the contents of a standard hospital resuscitation trolley for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Each item is discussed in terms of its function and the rationale for its inclusion.
Lazarus phenomenon or autoresuscitation is a very rare condition defined as delayed unassisted return of spontaneous circulation after cessation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Based on a case with a 67-year-old male who came back to life after discontinuation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, we discuss the background and possible countermeasures related to the Lazarus phenomenon.
