BACKGROUND Fibrinolytic therapy increases the risk of bleeding events. TNK-tPA (tenecteplase) is a variant of rt-PA with greater fibrin specificity and reduced plasma clearance that can be given as a single bolus. We compared the incidence and predictors of bleeding events after treatment with TNK-tPA and rt-PA. METHODS AND RESULTS In the Assessment of the Safety and Efficacy of a New Thrombo...

Bleeding is a complication of gastrointestinal vascular malformation and may be an emergency. Dieulafoy's lesion is rare but the aberrant submucosal artery may cause gastrointestinal bleeding. It is most commonly located in the proximal part of the stomach. Endoscopy is used for diagnosis and treatment. Mass lesions, diffuse lesions and severe bleeding may require surgery. Wedge resection or le...

BACKGROUND BPC 157 is a stable gastric pentadecapeptide recently implicated with a role in hemostasis. While NO is largely implicated in hemostatic mechanisms, in tail-amputation-models under heparin- and warfarin-administration, both the NO-synthase (NOS)-blocker, L-NAME (prothrombotic) and the NOS-substrate L-arginine (antithrombotic), were little investigated. Objective. To investigate the e...

PRINCIPLES Despite many reports investigating the relationship of subarachnoid haemorrhage and seasonal variation in different parts of the world, there is no clear correlation. As far as we know this subject has not been reported from Istanbul yet. The purpose of this study is to determine if there is any correlation between season and spontaneous subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) caused by intra...

The increased bleeding risk associated with the use of abciximab has been well reported. The risk appears to be amplified when abciximab is administered concurrently with a fibrinolytic agent. We report and review the literature on the occurrence of a case of fatal pulmonary haemorrhage, a rare bleeding complication, in a patient who received both these drugs.

BACKGROUND Pharmaceutical thrombosis prophylaxis (PTP) with low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) is highly effective in preventing venous thromboembolic events (VTEs) and fatal pulmonary embolism. Important risk factors for VTEs are surgery and immobilization, along with malignancy. Many studies involving gynaecological malignancies show no increased risk for bleeding complications with PTP. The complications of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) include cyst rupture and haemorrhage leading to loin pain and frank haematuria. Risk factors include large kidney volume, hypertension, and renal impairment. We present a case of a young male who, following trauma to the kidney, had a life threatening bleed from his polycystic kidney. The case was initially treated with f...

Pre-operative embolisation of vertebral metastases has been known to effectively devascularise hypervascular vertebral tumours and to reduce intra-operative bleeding. However, the complications that occur during the procedure are rarely reported. This case study attempts to highlight one rare complication, which is epidural tumoural haemorrhage intra-procedure. It may occur due to the fragility...

OBJECTIVE To determine safety and effectiveness of uterine packing to stop hemorrhage in postpartum and post abortal cases. METHODS Patients who delivered either vaginally or via Caesarian section who developed primary post partum haemorrhage and post abortal patients developing primary post partum haemorrhage refractory to conventional medical treatment, were included in the study. Packing w...

Background: Bleeding from small bowel neoplasms account for 1–4% of cases of upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage. Renal cell carcinoma constitutes 3% of all adult malignancies and often presents insidiously. Consequently 25–30% of patients have metastases at the time of diagnosis. Gastrointestinal bleeding from renal cell carcinoma metastases is an uncommon and under-recognised manifestation of ...
