The grey body radiation spectrum from various types of black holes is an interesting topic, both at the fundamental level and at the experimental (astrophysical) one. In a previous paper, I have applied the modified Moebius transform (henceforth MMT) due to Chen to the so-called distorted black holes, a terminology used by Geroch and Hartle to denote axially symmetric black hole Einstein soluti...

The no-scalar-hair conjecture rules out the existence of asymptotically flat black holes with a scalar dressing for a large class of theories. No-scalar-hair theorems have been proved for the cases of neutral black holes and for charged black holes in the Maxwell electrodynamics. These theorems, however, do not apply in the case of non-linear electrodynamics. In the present work numerical solut...

Binary black holes occupy a special place in our quest for understanding the evolution of galaxies along cosmic history. If massive black holes grow at the center of (pre-)galactic structures that experience a sequence of merger episodes, then dual black holes form as inescapable outcome of galaxy assembly, and can in principle be detected as powerful dual quasars. But, if the black holes reach...

In a recent paper hep-th/0008140 by E. Verlinde, an interesting formula has been put forward, which relates the entropy of a conformal formal field in arbitrary dimensions to its total energy and Casimir energy. This formula has been shown to hold for the conformal field theories that have AdS duals in the cases of AdS Schwarzschild black holes and AdS Kerr black holes. In this paper we further...

The use of sonic analogues to black and white holes, called dumb or deaf holes, to understand the particle production by black holes is reviewed. The results suggest that the black hole particle production is a low-frequency and low-wavenumber process.

Perturbations around black holes have been an intriguing topic in the last few decades. They are particularly important today, since they relate to the gravitational wave observations which may provide the unique fingerprint of black holes’ existence. Besides the astrophysical interest, theoretically perturbations around black holes can be used as testing grounds to examine the proposed AdS/CFT...

New four-dimensional black hole solutions of Brans-Dicke equations with a negative constant ω, coupled to a massless scalar field, are presented. The temperature of these black holes is zero and the horizon area is infinite. An astrophysical application is also discussed. Scalar-tensor theories of gravity are considered as the most natural generalizations of general relativity. From theoretical...

The event horizon is predicted to generate particles from the quantum vacuum, an effect that bridges three areas of physics--general relativity, quantum mechanics and thermodynamics. The quantum radiation of real black holes is too feeble to be detectable, but black-hole analogues may probe several aspects of quantum black holes. In this paper, we explain in simple terms some of the motivations...

We consider the production and decay of TeV-scale black holes. Evaluation of the production cross section of higher dimensional rotating black holes is made. The master field equation for general spin-s fields confined on brane world is derived. For five-dimensional (Randall-Sundrum) black holes, we obtain analytic formulae for the greybody factors in low frequency expansion.
