In the present study, cadmium (Cd) accumulation capabilities of aquatic macrophytes Ceratophyllum demersum, Bacopa monnieri and Rotala rotundifolia were determined after treating both individual and triple macrophytes. The macrophytes were treated with Cd at 0, 0.1, 1 and 10 mg/L concentrations in a controlled chamber for 12-days. Cadmium accumulations increased with increasing Cd concentration...

In this study, Groenlandia densa (L.) Fourr. (opposite-leaved pondweed), was exposed to prepared stock solution of cadmium and copper with 1.0, 3.0, 5.0 and 7.0 mg L(-1) concentration in certain periods (24, 48, 72 and 96 h) and changing amount of accumulation of plants in depending on time and concentration was measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The results show that under experi...

The logarithmic n-octanol/water partition coefficient (logK(ow)) is a very important property which concerns water-solubility, bioconcentration factor, toxicity and soil absorption coefficient of organic compounds. Quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) model for logK(ow) of 133 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) is analyzed using heuristic method (HM) implemented in CODESSA. In orde...

Leading QSAR models provide supporting documentation in addition to a predicted toxicological value. Such information enables the toxicologist to explore the properties of chemical substances as well as to review and to increase the reliability of toxicity predictions. This article focuses on the use of this information in practice. We explore the supporting documentation provided by the EPISui...

We report experimental evidence for bioconcentration of a low-pathogenicity avian influenza virus (H6N8) in the tissue of freshwater clams. Our results support the concept that freshwater clams may provide an effective tool for use in the early detection of influenza A viruses in aquatic environments.

A bioconcentration factor (BCF) estimation model for a wide range of nonionic organic compounds was developed on the basis of molecular connectivity indices and polarity correction factors. The nonlinear topological modeling using polarity correction factors resulted in the best BCF estimation quality for all of the 239 compounds studied, with a mean absolute estimation error of 0.478 log units...

We determined the respiratory uptake and depuration kinetics of perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS) in Perinereis wilsoni, a polychaete sandworm used as a model species to investigate the fate of chemical pollutants in coastal environments. The sandworms were kept in gravel-packed containers, and the water levels were varied cyclically to mimic the tides. We used seawater kept at 17.1°C. A 7-day ex...

This paper was designed to study stereoselective enrichment and changes in gene expression when zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryo-larvae were exposed to racemic, (-)- or (+)- PCB149 (2,2',3,4',5',6- hexachlorobiphenyl). Based on bioconcentration analysis, non-racemic enrichment was significantly observed after racemic exposure. No isomerization between the two isomers was found after (-)/(+)-PCB14...

The concentration of heavy metals (HMs) in soil-plant systems was an important indicator soil metal pollution, and the migration transportation abilities HMs from to plants were great significance for evaluating food safety reducing health risks. This study conducted investigate contamination translocation soil-Paeonia lactiflora system Bozhou, Anhui Province, China. pollution assessed by calcu...
