Bacterial colonization was investigated retrospectively in patients with plaque psoriasis (n=98 inpatient treatments, n=73 patients). At least one pathogen was found in 46% of all cases. Staphylococcus aureus was the most frequent bacterium. Bacterial colonization of psoriasis plaques could be relevant in individual cases.
Periodontal disease is the most common oral disease in dogs with up of 80% of animals affected (Riggio et al., 2011). This disease is progressive and involves two stages: gingivitis (reversible) and periodontitis (irreversible, but often controllable). It is caused by plaque buildup on teeth. The plaque is a smooth membrane, adhesive, contaminated with saliva bacteria and debris. Bacteria and b...
Placement of fixed appliances is still unfortunately linked with a high risk of developing white spot lesions, in spite of advances in orthodontic materials and treatment techniques [1,2]. During orthodontic treatment, plaque accumulation is frequently inevitable around the brackets because of inadequate oral hygiene which is very common in pubertal people [2]. Dental plaque is a biofilm produc...

OBJECTIVE To determine the relation between presence of H. pylori in supra-gingival dental plaque with oral hygiene habits and oral health status of patients suffering from symptomatic dyspepsia. STUDY DESIGN Descriptive study. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY The Department of Oral Health Sciences, Shaikh Zayed FPGMI, Lahore, from September 2008 to August 2009. METHODOLOGY One hundred and fif...
UNLABELLED Bacteria living in physically structured habitats are exposed heterogeneously to both resources and different types of phages. While there have been numerous experimental approaches to examine spatially distributed bacteria exposed to phages, there is little theory to guide the design of these experiments, interpret their results, or expand the inferences drawn to a broader ecologica...

Dental plaque is a complex biofilm consisting of a polysaccharide matrix containing bacteria, voids and nonvital material of bacterial origin. Both cariogenic and periodontopathic bacteria reside in dental biofilm (plaque). While other factors must also be present for caries or periodontal disease to exist in a patient, without these bacteria neither bacterial disease will occur. The primary go...
Dental plaque samples from (i) subjects with no apparent oral disease, (ii) mentally retarded subjects with periodontal disease, and (iii) subjects with active caries were collected in three transport media viz. a dithiothreitol poised balanced mineral salt solution designated as reduced transport fluid (RTF), VMG II, and modified Stuart medium (SBL). The samples were dispersed by sonic treatme...
Introduction Periodontal disease comprises of a group of inflammatory conditions of the supporting tissues of the teeth that are caused by bacteria. Our understanding of the etiology of periodontal diseases has undergone major advances in recent decades. In the mid 1900s it was believed that all bacterial species found in dental plaque were equally capable of causing disease and that periodonti...
