Atrial cardiac myxoma is the most common benign cardiac tumour. Atrial myxoma most commonly arises from the left atrium and, less frequently, from the right atrium or both ventricles. Cardiac myxoma arising from the tricuspid valve is rare. These tumours can present with right heart failure as a result of right ventricular outflow tract obstruction. A high index of suspicion and appropriate inv...
Routine echocardiography following acute myocardial infarction revealed a large totally asymptomatic left atrial myxoma. One year after excision of the myxoma and coronary artery by-pass grafting, the patient remains well.
a 51-year-old man was admitted to the emergency department with palpitation and atypical chest pain. he had a history of percutaneous mitral valve commissurotomy 20 years previously. he did not use any drugs. physical examination was unremarkable except for a loud s1 on auscultation. the surface electrocardiogram (ecg) showed atrial fibrillation rhythmwith rapid ventricular response and right b...
INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to determine the factors associated with postoperative atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with left atrial (LA) myxoma. METHODS Thirty-six consecutive patients with LA myxoma (10 men, mean age: 49.3 ± 15.7 years), who were operated on between March 2010 and July 2012, were included in this retrospective study. Pre-operative electrocardiograms and echoc...
CASE REPORT A 56 year old woman with atrial myxoma presented with a visual acuity of no light perception after acute ophthalmic artery obstruction (OAO) associated with stroke. She developed late retinal pigmentary changes due choroidal infarction, typical of the OAO. DISCUSSION Simultaneous obstruction of the retinal and choroidal circulation was observed in the OAO. Atrial myxoma should be ...
Methods Our case was a 41-year-old female. She had undergone a successful extirpation of a left atrial myxoma with a partial resection and primary repair of the interatrial septum 2 years ago. She was suffering from dyspnea and fatigue for 1 month. Her TTE revealed a mass lesion of 49 x 22 mm within the left atrial cavity originating from the interatrial septum, consistent with a recurrent myxoma.
BACKGROUND Atrial myxoma is uncommon and may be associated with brief isolated ischemic events. We describe a patient with atrial myxoma and an incompletely evaluated ischemic stroke followed 1 year later with almost complete brain necrosis. SUMMARY OF REPORT A 63-year-old woman presented with a rapidly progressive illness resulting in coma within 24 hours from multiple myxomatous emboli. Cra...
In the course of the evaluation of five patients with left atrial myxoma, it was noted that the movement of the myxoma was related to specific changes in left atrial hemodynamics. Prolapsing tumors, Type I, move from the left ventricle to the left atrium in early systole and from the left atrium to the left ventricle in early diastole, thereby causing prominent c and v waves accompanied by a ra...
Right atrial myxoma is a rare cause of heart failure in infancy and childhood. 1-4 Since its clinical diagnosis is elusive in this age group,4 it is usually not suspected in the differential diagnosis of cyanotic neonates with congestive cardiac failure. The implications, however, of making the diagnosis of this potentially curable tumour during life are obvious. We report a newborn baby with a...
INTRODUCTION Left atrial mass has been known to have a benign course. CASE DESCRIPTION A 55-year-old Asian woman visited to our hospital because of right sided hemiparesis and sudden vision loss in her left eye. She diagnosed as acute cerebral infarction and central retinal artery occlusion by several studies. We detected a large mass in the left atrium and thought this mass as thrombus causi...
