Since 1989 there has been a burgeoning of the visual arts in Northern Ireland hospitals. This paper compares the three organisational models for hospital arts currently operating within the Province and in an overview discusses ways to coordinate working practice for future development of the visual arts in local hospitals.
One of the central challenges facing the media arts is to establish a common vocabulary for parsing them. Unlike the performing, visual, and literary arts, where established disciplinary categories are typically used to compare art forms,1 there is no common standard for distinguishing among the media arts. Sometimes the media arts are described in terms of the technology used to create them, a...
Assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) have become almost commonplace in the developed world. It is estimated that 1% of American children are now conceived using some form of assisted reproduction, and that over a million children have been born as a result of the use of ARTs. In the past several years, however, scientists have begun to sound a cautionary note about the health outcomes of A...
This past decade saw the birth of AIMAC, the International Association for Arts and Cultural Management, which held its fifth conference at the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration, following previous conferences in Montreal, Paris–Jouy-en-Josas, London and San Francisco. With this birth, the question arises as to the possibility of the emergence of a new discipline – that o...
islamic arts are often identified by their abstract compositions based on geometric principles and spiritual concepts. using artworks from different eras, this paper highlights the presence of a particular model of thought in islamic arts in which the hierarchy of perspectival vision is abolished. the main argument is based on the ability of some artworks to be looked at from any angle while ma...
ADP-ribosyltransferases (ARTs) modify proteins with single units or polymers of ADP-ribose to regulate DNA repair. However, the substrates for these enzymes are ill-defined. For example, although histones are modified by ARTs, the sites on these proteins ADP-ribosylated following DNA damage and the ARTs that catalyse these events are unknown. This, in part, is due to the lack of a eukaryotic mo...
Adaptive learning techniques have typically scheduled practice using learners' accuracy and item presentation history. We describe an adaptive learning system (Adaptive Response Time Based Sequencing—ARTS) that uses both accuracy and response time (RT) as direct inputs into sequencing. Response times are used to assess learning strength and to determine mastery, making both fluency and accuracy...
Assisted reproduction techniques (ARTs), such as artificial insemination and embryo transfer are well established and have been used in a wide range of species. To date, the economic impact of these ARTs in horses has rapidly increased. While many studies have attempted to improve the efficiency of ARTs, overall success remains relatively restricted due principally to a limited knowledge of the...
As digital opportunities emerge in the visual arts—to produce multimedia art and digital scholarship, publish online, and hold online museum exhibitions—old copyright frustrations have worsened in a field where getting permissions is routine. A national survey of 2828 visual arts professionals, combined with 100 in-depth interviews of visual arts practitioners throughout the United States, expl...
