BACKGROUND Cilioretinal artery occlusion rarely results in neovascular glaucoma, especially in cases of extensive cilioretinal infarction and combined retinal vascular occlusion. CASE A 62-year-old man with diabetes mellitus and essential hypertension showed a visual acuity of counting fingers, retinal whitening temporal to the optic disc with mild dilation and tortuosity of the retinal veins...
Neurologic deficits that occur simultaneously with or subsequent to internal carotid artery occlusion may be influenced by the adequacy of the intracerebral collateral circulation. Transcranial Doppler ultrasonography was used to evaluate mean middle cerebral artery blood velocity and blood flow in major collateral arteries in 78 patients, including 39 patients with 40 internal carotid artery o...
Endovascular surgery is advantageous in experimentally induced ischemic stroke because it causes fewer cranial traumatic lesions than invasive surgery and can closely mimic the pathophysiology in stroke patients. However, the outcomes are highly variable, which limits the accuracy of evaluations of ischemic stroke studies. In this study, eight healthy adult rhesus monkeys were randomized into t...
Central Retinal Artery Occlusion (CRAO) is the partial or complete blockage of central retinal artery presenting as acute painless monocular vision loss with increased risk in those cardiovascular disease. Diagnosis CRAO requires a dilated fundoscopic exam performed by an Ophthalmologist. In resource limited hospitals, access to these expertise and resources may be difficult.
Severe internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis is a common cause of cerebrovascular accident (CVA) in middle-aged patients. Contralateral carotid occlusion (CCO) in patients with severe ICA stenosis is associated with high risk of CVA. Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is associated with more complications in patients with CCO than those without CCO. In this study, we present the case of a 61-year-ol...
A 6-year-old girl presented with a very large aneurysm of the distal branch middle cerebral artery( angular artery). There was previous history mild traumatic brain injury. The presentation happened more than 5 weeks after trauma an atypical visual complaint. She successfully treated by embolization and occlusion parental vessel. Recognizing pos is challenging in young child must be remembered ...
INTRODUCTION Collateral muscular artery aneurysm is exceedingly rare. We report the first case of subscapular artery aneurysm in a patient with type 1 neurofibromatosis and ipsilateral chronic subclavian artery occlusion. CASE PRESENTATION A 74-year-old Caucasian woman with a medical history of type 1 neurofibromatosis, presented a sudden left pectoral mass, later diagnosed as a ruptured aneu...
The authors describe a case of fusiform basilar artery aneurysm not amenable to surgical clipping or balloon occlusion with preservation of the parent artery. The aneurysm was treated by balloon occlusion (proximal basilar artery) after test occlusion was well-tolerated; 7-year follow-up showed good results.
V. Kostanian S.C. Cramer SUMMARY: A patient with acute top of the basilar syndrome clinically was found to have only a small basilar artery filling defect but complete occlusion of the artery of Percheron. Intra-arterial thrombolysis resulted in favorable neurologic outcome. To our knowledge, this is the only case of angiographically proved and treated artery of Percheron occlusion. The value o...
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE We report a preclinical study of a new endoluminal device for aneurysm occlusion to test the hypothesis that the device, even without use of intrasaccular coil placement, could occlude saccular aneurysms without causing substantial parent artery compromise or compromise of adjacent, small branch arteries. METHODS The Pipeline Neuroendovascular Device (Pipeline NED; Ches...
