Mass rearing of anopheles stephensi on human blood by artificial feeding under laboratory conditions
Introduction: In order to control the diseases that are transmitted to human and animal by arthropod vectors, it is necessary to investigate vectors and to recognize control methods as well. These studies are applicable by rearing the colonies of arthropod blood-feeders like malaria and leishmaniasis in laboratory. The purpose of this study was to produce mass production of Anopheles stephens...
Title of Dissertation: GENETIC MANIPULATION OF ANOPHELES STEPHENSI IMMUNITY TO INCREASE PLASMODIUM FALCIPARUM SALIVARY GLAND SPOROZOITE INFECTION LEVELS Kasim I. George, Doctor of Philosophy, 2016 Dissertation directed by: Professor David A. O’Brochta, Institute for Bioscience & Biotechnology Research Department of Entomology Human malaria is responsible for over 700,000 deaths a year. To stay ...
Objectives To assess the effectiveness of nanopermethrin as a potential new formulation for pest and vector control. Methods Permethrin nanoparticles were prepared by ionic gelation method its structure formulations designed using Box–Behnken statistical technique. The effect independent variables (Chitosan/Permethrin ratio, tripolyphosphate quantity, sonication time) on properties was investig...
tagetes minuta l. is considered as an annual plant growing in the temperate zones of south america. it has been used as carminative, anti-inflammatory, anti-abortion,vermifuge, bronchodilator and hypotensive. in the current study the locally cultured plant of tagetes minuta l. was studied for phytochemical and larvicidal properties.the phytochemical analysis of aerial parts of the plant exhibit...
larvicidal activity of essential oils of apiaceae plants against malaria vector, anopheles stephensi
background: plant extracts and oils may act as alternatives to conventional pesticides for malaria vector control. the aim of this study was to evaluate the larvicidal activity of essential oils of three plants of apiaceae family against anopheles stephensi , the main malaria vector in iran. methods: essential oils from heracleum persicum , foeniculum vulgare and coriandrum sativum seeds were ...
Complete dosage compensation refers to hyperexpression of the entire X or Z chromosome in organisms with heterogametic sex chromosomes (XY male or ZW female) in order to compensate for having only one copy of the X or Z chromosome. Recent analyses suggest that complete dosage compensation, as in Drosophila melanogaster, may not be the norm. There has been no systematic study focusing on dosage ...
BACKGROUND To study the chemical constituents and larvicidal activity of essential oil extracted from the leaves of Coccinia grandis against three mosquito species. METHODS Essential oil was extracted by hydro distillation using clevenger apparatus and was analyzed for chemical constituents by gas chromatography-mass spectrophotometry (GC-MS). Larvicidal activity was recorded after 12 and 24h...

Staphylococcus hominis is a culturable component of the bacterial microbiome of Anopheles stephensi. Here, we present the annotated draft genome sequences of three S. hominis isolates from A. stephensi. These genomic resources will facilitate experiments to further our understanding of the role of bacteria in mosquito biology.
BACKGROUND There are several plant extractions which are being used for mosquito control. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Olea vera, Linum usitatissimum and Piper nigera against Anopheles stephensi and Aedes aegypti under laboratory conditions. METHODS These tests were carried out using WHO recommended bioassay method for adult mosquitoes. RESULTS The extracts from bla...
