An anisotropic tunnel microporous crystal was prepared. Active transportation of anthracene as a guest molecule in the anisotropic tunnels was observed. The direction of anthracene movement implies that the anisotropic tunnel did not work as a flap-check valve. The direction of the movement was consistent with that caused by a Brownian ratchet.

We study the sample paths properties of Operator scaling Gaussian random fields. Such fields are anisotropic generalizations of anisotropic self-similar random fields as anisotropic Fractional Brownian Motion. Some characteristic properties of the anisotropy are revealed by the regularity of the sample paths. The sharpest way of measuring smoothness is related to these anisotropies and thus to ...

Anisotropic Non-Linear Diffusion is a powerful image processing technique, which allows to simultaneously remove the noise and enhance sharp features in two or three dimensional images. Anisotropic Diffusion is understood here in the sense of Weickert, meaning that diffusion tensors are anisotropic and reflect the local orientation of image features. This is in contrast with the non-linear diff...

We have studied a simple model colloidal fluid to assess the role of anisotropic interactions in crystallization process when the interaction potential is short ranged compared with the size of the molecule, which is the case for the effective interaction between protein molecules in aqueous solutions. Using Monte Carlo simulations we have calculated the phase diagrams of soft dumbbell systems ...

This article is devoted to a new method for removing texture in images using a smoothing rotating filter is presented. The novelty of this approach resides in the association of a descriptor able to classify a pixel as a texture pixel, a homogenous region pixel or an edge pixel with an anisotropic edge detector which defines two directions used in anisotropic diffusion. This anisotropic diffusi...

In this paper we extend the standard Ultra Weak Variational Formulation (UWVF) of Maxwell’s equations in an isotropic medium to the case of an anisotropic medium. We verify that the underlying theoretical framework carries over to anisotropic media (however error estimates are not yet available) and completely describe the new scheme. We then consider TM mode scattering, show how this results i...

Gaussian filter is widely used for image smoothing but it is well known that this type of filters blur the image features (e.g., edges). Two extensions of Gaussian filters will be discussed in this survey. One is the anisotropic filtering (bilateral filtering or PDE-based anisotropic diffusion) for feature-preserving smoothing and the other is the recursive implementation of various filters tha...

We propose a new geometric multigrid solver for anisotropic image diffusion. Anisotropic diffusion in image processing has been widely accepted as a denoising method; however, the large computation times for large volumes are prohibitive for interactive exploration of the parameter space. Our approach is able to reduce computation times via a new method for restricting the anisotropic diffusion...

Isotropic and anisotropic out-of-plane deformations induced by thin-film residual stress on thin cubic materials are studied. By transforming the compliance tensor, an analytical expression can be derived for the biaxial stiffness modulus for all directions in any given cubic crystal plane. A modified Stoney's equation, including both isotropic and anisotropic terms, can be formulated to predic...

We designed an anisotropic electrode, in which Li(+) ion insertion and diffusion are anisotropic, by controlled growth of TiO2 nanosheets parallel to the surface of graphene paper. The anisotropic electrode gives a gravimetric capacity of 112 mA h g(-1) at an ultra-high rate of 100 C (corresponding to 36 s of charge-discharge), 3 times higher than that of a referenced isotropic electrode. The r...
