When using thresholding method to segment an image, a fixed threshold is not suitable if the background is uneven. Here, we propose a new adaptive thresholding method using variational theory. The method requires only one parameter to be selected and the adaptive threshold surface can be found automatically from the original image.
Edge detection is one of the fundamental tool in image processing, machine vision and computer vision, which aim at identifying points in a digital image. It is an important tool for medical image segmentation and 3D reconstruction. Generally, edge has detected according to some early brought forward algorithms such as gradient-based algorithm and templatebased algorithm, but they are not so go...
Dynamic switching base station (BS) to improve the utilization is very important for reducing the energy consumption. Most of existing dynamic switching BS schemes require the switching threshold to be set in advance. The fixed switching threshold, however, fails to apply in practical two-tier femtocell networks, for it is difficult to precisely model that it may result in different switching o...
This paper evaluates an adaptive staircase procedure for threshold estimation that is suitable for unforced-choice tasks-ones with the additional response alternative don't know. Within the framework of a theory of indecision, evidence is developed that fluctuations of the response criterion are much less detrimental to unforced-choice tasks than to yes/no tasks. An adaptive staircase procedure...
Hand gesture segmentation is a key step for gesture recognition. Based on the construction of a new color space of skin model, a new dynamic-thresholding segmentation approach named Adaptive Threshold Segmentation Algorithm (ATSA) was further developed and segmentation effect evaluation was conducted. Some images of hand gesture were processed by using ATSA and the Fixed Threshold Segmentation ...
Grayscale digital image halftoning quantizes each pixel to one bit. In error diffusion halftoning, the quantization error at each pixel is filtered and fed back to the input in order to diffuse the quantization error among the neighboring grayscale pixels. Error diffusion introduces nonlinear distortion (directional artifacts), linear distortion (sharpening), and additive noise. Threshold modul...
A new approach to adaptive threshold selection for classification of peaks of audio spectra is presented. We here extend the previous work on classification of sinusoidal and noise peaks based on a set of spectral peak descriptors in a twofold way: on one hand we propose a compact sinusoidal model where all the modulation parameters are defined with respect to the analysis window. This fact is ...
