BACKGROUND The expression level of several matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), including MMP-2 and MMP-9, in ovarian cancer cells is directly associated with their invasive and metastatic potentials. MMP-9 is also expressed in stromal cells adjacent to the tumor. To investigate the contribution of MMP-9 expression in stromal cells to ovarian tumor growth, we examined angiogenesis and progressive ...

We present the genome of a clinical isolate, Aeromonas hydrophila SNUFPC-A8, from a moribund cherry salmon. The completed draft genome of this strain shows high sequence homology to the reference strain A. hydrophila ATCC 7966 (NC008570.1) and known plasmids pAsa2 and pAAk1 from other Aeromonas species (NC004925.1 and NC019014.1).

A new eudesmane-type sesquiterpene, 11-hydroxycapitulatin B (1), along with a known related sesquiterpene, capitulatin B (2), was isolated from the endophytic fungus Nigrospora oryzae A8 from Aquilaria sinensis, the only plant resource for agarwood production in China. This research demonstrates that the endophytic fungi from A. sinensis might play a role in the formation of agarwood.

We previously identified and presented the draft genome of a Xanthomonadaceae bacterial strain Dyella japonica A8 which shows quorum-quenching activity. Here, we report the complete, closed genome sequence of this bacterium. This complete genome may help to further investigate the comparative quorum-quenching activity among D. japonica strains.

Noncovalent mass spectrometry (MS) is emerging as an invaluable technique to probe the structure, interactions, and dynamics of membrane proteins (MPs). However, maintaining native-like MP conformations in the gas phase using detergent solubilized proteins is often challenging and may limit structural analysis. Amphipols, such as the well characterized A8-35, are alternative reagents able to ma...

BACKGROUND Many extant male animals exhibit exaggerated body parts for display, defense or offence in sexual selection, such as male birds of paradise showing off colorful and elegant feathers and male moose and reindeers bearing large structured antlers. For insects, male rhinoceros and stag beetles have huge horn-like structure for fighting and competition and some male Leptopanorpa scorpionf...

The anaphylatoxin C5a exerts a plethora of biologic activities critical in the pathogenesis of systemic inflammatory diseases. Recently, we reported on a C5a mutant, jun/fos-A8, as a potent antagonist for the human and mouse C5a receptor (CD88). Addressing the molecular mechanism accounting for CD88 receptor antagonism by site-directed mutagenesis, we found that a positively charged amino acid ...
