Using data from Fermilab fixed-target experiment E791, we have measured particleantiparticle production asymmetries for Λ , Ξ, and Ω hyperons in π – nucleon interactions at 500 GeV/c. The asymmetries are measured as functions of Feynmanx (xF ) and p 2 T over the ranges −0.12 ≤ xF ≤ 0.12 and 0 ≤ pT ≤ 4(GeV/c) . We find substantial asymmetries, even at xF = 0. We also observe leading-particle-typ...

Snapshot isolation (SI) provides significantly improved concurrency over 2PL, allowing reads to be non-blocking. Unfortunately, it can also lead to non-serializable executions in general. Despite this, it is widely used, supported in many commercial databases, and is in fact the highest available level of consistency in Oracle and PostgreSQL. Sufficient conditions for detecting whether SI anoma...

Previous research in real-time concurrency control mainly focuses on the schedulability guarantee of hard real-time transactions and the reducing of the miss rate of soft real-time transactions. Although many new database applications have significant response time requirements, not much work has been done in the joint scheduling of traditional non-real-time transactions and soft real-time tran...

The Swedish driving-license test consists of a theory test and a practical road test. The aim of this paper is to evaluate which Item Response Theory (IRT) model among the one (1PL), two (2PL) and three (3PL) parameter logistic IRT models that is the most suitable to use when evaluating the theory test in the Swedish driving-license test. Further, to compare the chosen IRT model with the indice...

7 Conclusions EOS is a storage manager that has been prototyped at AT&T Bell Laboratories as a vehicle for research into distributed storage architectures for database systems and specially those that integrate programming languages and databases. EOS is the storage manager of ODE 1], an object oriented database management system also being developed at Bell Laboratories. In this paper we have ...

Various survey instruments have been used to measure patient safety culture. Many of these instruments use a (usually5-point) Likert scale. This studyused the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire-Korean version (SAQ-K), consisting of 34 items in six domains, to examine whether other scales, such as dichotomized and trichotomized scales, present equivalent estimates to the currently used 5-point Liker...

Item parameter calibration is important for tests based on item response theory, because the scoring, equating, bias analysis of the test, and item selection in adaptive tests are all based on the item parameters. As a test is continuously administered, item calibration needs to be conducted for new items at intervals to replace overexposed, obsolete, or flawed items in the item bank. Although ...

We consider concurrency control problems that arise in the presence of materialized views. Consider a database system supporting materialized views to speed up queries. For a range of important applications (e.g. banking, billing, network management), transactions that access materialized views would like to get some consistency guarantees|if a transaction reads a base relation after an update,...

OVERVIEW In order to explain the concepts in the title, this paper refers to four other papers in this volume. It builds on the introduction to domain theory and validity-centered design in Bunderson(2002), and adds to that paper information about the need for and nature of principled design experiments and theory-based calibrations. These tools make it possible to construct, over time and over...

Item mappings are widely used in educational assessment for applications such as test administration (through test form assembly and computer assisted testing) and for criterion-referenced (CR) interpretation of test scores or scale anchoring. Item mappings are also used to construct ordered item booklets in the CTB/McGraw Hill Bookmark standard setting procedure. Selection rules for mapping th...
