Aeromonas is recognized to cause a variety of diseases in man. In humans, they are associated with intestinal and extra-intestinal infections. With the growing importance of Aeromonas as an emerging pathogen, it is important to combat this organism. It is indisputable that Aeromonas strains may produce many different putative virulence factors such as enterotoxins, hemolysins or cytotoxins, and...

Aeromonas hydrophila inhabits freshwater and soil and is mainly pathogenic to cold-blooded animals. It is known to cause red leg disease in frogs, septicemia and stomatitis in snakes and infections in freshwater fish. 1 Human infections due to members of the genus Aeromonas are considered rare and mainly occur in immune compromised individuals or patients who are suffering from chronic disease....

Aeromonas hydrophila is an opportunistic pathogen residing in freshwater environments that causes infection in fish and mammals. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of A. hydrophila strain TN97-08 isolated from a diseased bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) in 1997.

It is known that Aeromonas spp. possess different chromosomal β-lactamase genes. Presence and phenotypic expression of bla TEM, bla SHV, and bla CTX-M ESBL-encoding genes were investigated in environmental water isolates of Aeromonas hydrophila and Aeromonas jandaei. Presence of bla SHV and bla CTX-M genes was not observed, and bla TEM gene was verified in 91% of the isolates. Sequencing of 10 ...

Background: Aeromonas species are Gram-negative ubiquitous bacteria, facultative anaerobic rods that infect both invertebrates and vertebrates. Various fish species develop hemorrhagic disease and furunculosis due to Aeromonas spp. Aeromonas strains generate certain active compounds such as siderophores, which are the final products of non-ribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) activity. The prese...

Aeromonas hydrophila strain KOR1, isolated from mangrove rhizosphere soil, has the ability to produce the quorum-sensing signal molecule. Here, we report the 4.78-Mb genome sequence of strain KOR1, and found its quorum-sensing encoding gene LuxR. The data will be crucial to understanding the quorum-sensing-dependent phenotypes of this bacterium.

The medicinal leech has established a long-term mutualistic association with Aeromonas veronii, a versatile bacterium which can also display free-living waterborne and fish- or human-pathogenic lifestyles. Here, we investigated the role of antibiotics in the dynamics of interaction between the leech and its gut symbiont Aeromonas. By combining biochemical and molecular approaches, we isolated a...

Clinical strains of Aeromonas hvdrophlla and Aeromonas sobria were used to develop a mouse model for determining virulence potentials of food isolates. lntraperitoneal injection with these strains caused hemorrhaging and death of 10—12 week old male BALB/c mice within 24 h post challenge. Nonsupplemented injections of Aeromonas sp. suspensions resulted in a median LD 50 value of 4.9 X 10 cells,...

This study aimed to evaluate phagocytic and bactericidal activity of macrophages originated from murine J774 macrophage cell line against 26 strains of Aeromonas caviae, Aeromonas veronii biotype sobria and Aeromonas hydrophila isolated from human fecal specimens. The analysis of phagocytic index (PI) indicated these strains were phagocytosed in low numbers, below 1.1 x l0(-3) for 65% strains o...

Title of Document: A STUDY OF UNUSUAL METABOLIC VARIANTS OF AEROMONAS CAVIAE AND AEROMONAS HYDROPHILA USING A POLYPHASIC TAXONOMIC APPROACH Zenas Chang, MS, 2010 Directed By: Professor Sam W. Joseph, CBMG Variation in acid production from carbohydrate metabolism has been identified in Aeromonas as a potential indicator for new subspecies. Therefore, pure cultures of non-lactose fermenting Aerom...
