The design problem of fault detection and isolation filters can be formulated as a model matching problem and solved using an H2-norm minimization approach. A systematic procedure is proposed to choose appropriate filter specifications which guarantee the existence of proper and stable solutions of the model matching problem. This selection is integral part of a numerically reliable computation...

A pyrene-fused pyrazaacene with only four linearly-fused aromatic rings is reported, which remarkably shows emission at red to NIR wavelengths (λ(em) = 687 nm). This exceeds the emission wavelengths observed for azaacenes with the same number of linearly-fused rings.

The kinetics of irreversible annihilation of charged particles performing overdamped motion induced by long-range interaction force, F (r) ∼ r −λ , is investigated. The system exhibits rich kinetic behaviors depending on the force exponent λ. In one dimension we find that the densities decay as t −1/(2+λ) and t −1/(1+2λ) when λ > 1 and 1/2 < λ < 1, respectively , with logarithmic correction at ...

Multiplex genome engineering is a standalone recombineering tool for large-scale programming and accelerated evolution of cells. However, this advanced genome engineering technique has been limited to use in selected bacterial strains. We developed a simple and effective strain-independent method for effective genome engineering in Escherichia coli. The method involves introducing a suicide pla...

The behavior of a pyridinium-substituted dimethyldihydropyrene photo-switch under aerobic conditions was investigated. During irradiation with red light (λ ≥ 630 nm), this compound plays the role of oxygen sensitizer and is quantitatively converted into an endoperoxide derivative. The photo-produced endoperoxide then thermally releases singlet oxygen to regenerate the starting compound.

PURPOSE The study evaluated-theoretically and experimentally-the longitudinal chromatic aberration (LCA) and through-focus energy efficiency (TF-EE) of diffractive-refractive bifocal intraocular lenses (2f-IOLs). METHODS Four aspheric 2f-IOLs (Tecnis +4.00 diopter [D] ZMA00, +2.75 D ZKB00, and AcrySof +4.0 D SN6AD3, +2.5 D SV25T0) of same base power 30 D, but different design, additional (add...

This paper intends to explore bifurcation behavior of limit cycles for a cubic Hamiltonian system with quintic perturbed terms using both qualitative analysis and numerical exploration. To obtain the maximum number of limit cycles, a quintic perturbed function with the form of R(x, y, λ) = S(x, y, λ) = mx2 + ny2 + ky4 − λ is added to a cubic Hamiltonian system, where m, n, k and λ are all varia...

A bifunctional peptide containing a domain that targets cell nuclei and a domain with the ability to biomineralize and capture Au clusters is presented. The peptide-Au clusters exhibit red emission (λ(em) = 677 nm) and specifically stain the nuclei of three cell lines.

In this paper we deal with the solvability of the infinite system of differential equations x′(t) = ∆(λ)x(t) + b with x(0) = a, where ∆(λ) is the triangle defined by the infinite matrix whose the nonzero entries are [∆(λ)]nn = λn and [∆(λ)]n,n−1 = λn−1 for all n ∈ N, for a given sequence λ and a, b are two given infinite column matrices. We use a new method based on Laplace transformations to s...

Abstract Efforts to remove invasive species may benefit native species, but the effects can be complex and unpredictable. Thus, studies of invasive-species removal provide important information for guiding management providing insight about variation in post-removal impacts within community. Using southern pine-grassland ecosystems as a model system, we hypothesized that long-established red-im...
