P-5: The Effects of Hydroalcoholic Extract of Lepidium Sativum(L.S) on Sperm Parameters in Adult Rat

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of hydroalcoholic extract of lepidium sativum(LS) on sperm parameters in adult rat. Materials and Methods: Male adult rats were divided into three groups: control group (n=5) received normal salin; group2: received 200 L.S extract; group3: received 400 LS extract. All groups were treated for 21 days. Evaluations were made by hystomorphometeric analysis and assay of plasma testosterone level. Results: Lepidium sativum in both dosages 200 and 400 of caused to reduction in germinal epithelial thickness and tube diameters in siminiferous tubules (p<0.05). A significant decrease of serum testosterone level was observed in both dosages of 200 and 400 L.S groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: We conclude that hydroalcoholic extract of lepidium sativum in dosage of 200 and 400 for 3 weeks has toxic effect on testicular tissue and quality of spermatogenesis and probably it could be due to hypophis-gonadal axis alterations.
