Investigating Reliability and Validity of Persian Version of Brief-Mentalized Affectivity Scale

Objective: In spite of increasing importance of emotion regulation, there are a limited number of emotion regulation measures in use and they target only a specific aspect of emotion regulation without taking account developmental approach. Mentalized affectivity proposed a novel perspective to researchers of this field which takes mentalization into account in emotion regulation. It is necessary to have reliable and valid measure  to measures this concept. This study aimed to provide and investigate psychometric characteristics of Persian version of Brief-mentalized affectivity.   Methods: The sample of 414 students from Tarbiat modares, Tehran and Shahid Beheshti universities were selected by available sampling during the academic year 2022-2023 and completed persian version of brief-mentalized affectivity, ten item personality inventory, satisfaction with life scale, beck anxiety inventory and difficulties in emotion regulation. Construct validity were evaluated through confirmatory factor analysis. Convergent and divergent validity were assessed by pearson correlation. Reliability was calculated using Cronbach s alpha method, test-retest and Composite reliability.. Results: factor analysis indicated that three-factor model (Identifying, Processing and Expressing) provided good model fit. Significant correlations between these factors and ten item personality inventory, satisfaction with life scale, beck anxiety inventory and difficulties in emotion regulation scales confirmed convergent and divergent validity. Cronbach s alfa for factors were  from 0/86 to 0/88. Test-retest coefficient for factors were  from 0/75 to /080 also composite reliability were from 0/79 to 0/82. Conclusion: Persian version of brief-mentalized affectivity characterized three factors(Identifying, Processing and Expressing) and has been demonstrated to have acceptable validity(construct,convergent,divergent) and reliability to use in psychological researches in Iranian population.
