Identify the challenges of leadership in hospitals

Background: In this study, we seek to identify the challenges of leadership role in physicians. For physicians facing the challenge of being able to appear only as a leader is fraught with challenges. Because they have to follow the clinical duties of the patients at the same time. In fact, we face five major challenges along the way. This article introduces these five challenges and solutions to address them. Methods: The present study is a qualitative research. In order to provide operational solutions, the existing literature was first reviewed. Then, from the research community, including medical leaders, the study sample was purposefully selected. In order to obtain the desired information, the interview method and focus groups were used. Results: There are challenges to having a physician appear purely in the role of leader. The study identified five challenges related to this category. These include: first, the challenge of ambiguity in the identity of being a physician or having a leadership identity; Third, the challenge of compensating for deficiencies in leadership skills through the promotion of clinical skills. Four, the challenge of looking down on the role of leadership compared to the role of health care. Five, the challenge of ethical commitment to patients' work, even when the physician's job is to lead as a full-time job. Conclusion: Because medical leaders are strongly identified with a physician's profession, they need leadership skills and knowledge of leadership-related professions to strengthen their identity as leaders and to strike a balance between the two identities. Organizational recognition and endorsement are central elements in building the personal identity of physician leaders. This means that by recognizing and acknowledging the dual identity of a medical leader, health care organizations can succeed in their leadership performance for the benefit of not only the organization but also the individual. Therefore, the combined identity of physicians can be realized in the dual role of leader and physician, and conditions can be provided for better fulfillment of this dual role
