Does Exercise Deprivation Increase the Tendency Towards Morphine Dependence in Rats?
نویسندگان
چکیده مقاله:
Background: Exercise deprivation has been concluded to have some negative effects on psychological well-being. This study was conducted to find out whether exercise deprivation may lead to morphine dependence in rats. Methods: Forty male Wistar rats weighing 162 ± 9 g were housed in clear plastic cages in groups of two under standard laboratory conditions. The study had two phases. In phase I, the animals were randomly divided into exercised (E) and unexercised (UE) groups (n = 20 each) and treadmill running was performed based on a standard protocol for three weeks. At the end of the training period, plasma β-endorphin levels were determined in four rats from each group. In phase II, the animals were provided with two bottles, one containing tap water and the other 25 mg/l morphine sulfate in tap water for a total of 12 weeks. At the end of this phase naloxone was injected intraperitoneally to precipitate morphine withdrawal Findings: There was no significant difference between UE and E groups in morphine consumption (mg/kg/wk) [group: F(1,14) = 0.2, P = 0.690; time: F(11,154) =18.72, P < 0.001; interaction: F(11,154) = 1.27 , P = 0.245]. No statistically significant difference between the two groups of animals was seen regarding withdrawal signs. Conclusion: The study showed that discontinuation of exercise does not increase the tendency of morphine dependence in rats. Keywords: Exercise dependence, Substance dependence, Oral morphine self-administration, Rat.

Does Propylthiouracil Increase the Gentamicin-Induced Nephrotoxicity In Rat?
Objective(s): The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of subacute administration of propylthiouracil (PTU) on gentamicin (GM)-induced nephrotoxicity in male rats. Materials and Methods: Male Wistar rats were divided into 4 experimental groups as follow: (1) Control group: isotonic saline (1 ml/kg, IP. for 18 d), (2) GM group: 100 mg/kg, IP for 8 d, (3) PTU group: PTU...
متن کاملThe effect of alloxan-induced diabetes on anti-nociception and on the development of morphine tolerance and dependence in rats
Diabetes is one of the most common diseases in all societies including Iran. One of its important complications is the neuropathic pain, which can be relieved by opioid drugs such as morphine. Opioid therapy is restricted due to development of tolerance and physical or mental dependence. In this study, the effect of diabetes on morphine analgesia and development of morphine tolerance and depend...

متن کاملThe attenuating effect of curcumin on morphine dependence in rats: the involvement of spinal microglial cells and inflammatory cytokines
Background: New evidence suggests an important role for spinal glial cells in development of opioid dependence. Curcumin, a component of the Curcuma Longa, has shown to act as a suppressor of microglial cells. The main goal of this study was to explore the attenuating effects of curcumin on morphine dependence with a focus on spinal microglial cells and inflammatory cytokines. Methods: In...
متن کاملEffects of regular swimming exercise on the pain threshold following withdrawal syndrome in morphine-dependent rats
Introduction: Nowadays Opioids are gaining acceptance for the management of moderate to severe and chronic pain. In addition, a number of studies have shown that plasma levels of β-endorphin (βEP) in exercise trained are higher than sedentary rats. In our study we assume that exercise training can reduce pain after withdrawal syndrome in morphine-dependent rats. Methods: Male Wistar rats (2...
