[ 1 ] - Totally Transanal Laparo-Endoscopic Single-Site ProctoColectomy-Ileoanal J-Pouch (TLPC-J): An Experimental Study of a Novel Approach
Background: The natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) has become a commonly considered novel approach in the surgical field. The NOTES provide possibility of operation through the natural orifice and decreases the intentional puncture of the systemic organ and subsequent complications. Totally transanal laparo-endoscopic single-site proctoColectomy-Ileoanal J-Pouch (TLPC-J) is...
[ 2 ] - The Application of a New Cyanoacrylate Glue in Pediatric Surgery for Fistula Closure
Surgical glues have been used in pediatric surgery because of the fragility of tissue, and to prevent major surgeries. The present report describes our experience with using a new cya-noacrylate Glubran 2 (Viareggio, Italy) in the treatment of five cases of tracheoesophageal atresia with fistula (one fistula protection, three recurrent fistula, and one unstable patients), two cases of hypospadi...
[ 3 ] - Limb Loss Caused by Thrombosis led to the Diagnosis of Ulcerative Colitis
Arterial thrombosis associated with ulcerative colitis usually occurs in the postoperative period with a good response to anticoagulant therapy and embolectomy. Our patient was a 14-year-old girl with ulcerative colitis who presented with bilateral pulsless extremities, which did not respond to medical treatment and embolectomy. Subsequent colectomy did not save her limbs. The repeated thrombos...
[ 4 ] - A Huge Gastric Trichobezoar in a Teenage Girl
A 13-year-old girl presented with a history of not being well during the past six months. The ultrasound examination showed an epigastric mass, which was diagnosed as a bezoar within the stomach in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. The patient was managed by operative evacuation. It was interesting that such a large bezoar did not cause any significant obstruction for the patient.
[ 5 ] - Xerografting as a Novel Procedure in the Management of Syngnathia
Congenital fusion of the maxilla and the mandible is a rare condition. The extent of the problem ranges from simple mucosal adhesion (synechia) to severe bony fusion (syngnathia). Here we present a patient with zygomatico-mandibular fusion who was treated at neonatal and infancy periods at three different stages without tracheostomy. Having had recurrence for two times, porcine grafting was per...
[ 6 ] - Peri-Operative High-Dose v Post-Operative Low Dose Steroid Therapy in the Management of Biliary Atresia: a Preliminary Report
Background: The use of high-dose steroid therapy peri portoenterostomy may have a positive impact on the frequency of cholangitis and survival rate. Methods: A prospective study was conducted on two groups of patients (less than three months of age) suffering from biliary atresia from 1999 to 2005. The patients in group I (G I) were managed peri-operatively by high-dose methylprednisolone while...
