Thermal Behavior of a Natural Sepiolite from Northeastern Iran
Authors
Abstract:
Sepiolite deposits have been recently discovered in northeastern Iran. However, there is still little information about its physicochemical and mineralogical characteristics. Therefore, the collapse of the sepiolite (with sizes of < 63 μm) structure induced by temperature elevation in an electric furnace at 350, 550, and 850 °C for 4 hours was studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD) in combination with Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and infrared spectroscopic analysis. Results showed that the main mineral constituent of the samples is a well crystallized sepiolite. However, dolomite and quartz were also present in minor amounts. Results also revealed that with temperature different phases including ‘sepiolite dihydrite’, ‘sepiolite anhydrite’ and ‘enstatite’ were formed, as magnesium coordinated water and octahedrically coordinated hydroxyl groups, were eliminated and the dehydroxylated phase was recrystallized to enstatite, a stable form of magnesium silicate (MgSiO3).

full textPhysico-chemical features of Aqueous extract of acanthophyllum laxiusculum roots from natural steppe habitats of Iran: Evaluating surface activity and thermal behavior of partially purified extract
Acanthophyllum laxiusculum is one of the most widely distributed species of the genus in Iran that flourishes in steppe and mountainous regions of the country. In the present study, water-soluble content of A. laxiusculum roots was extracted by boiling water and further successively purified partially by a defined solvent system. Surface tension measurements revealed the ability of plant extrac...

Extraction, Identification and Thermal Stability of Anthocyanins from Eggplant Peel as a Natural Colorant
In the present study, various mixtures of aqueous ethanol and acetone solutions were utilized to extract anthocyanins from eggplant peel by a discontinuous process to obtain a natural red-purple colorant. First, the most appropriate combination for extraction solvent was selected as ethanol 70 wt in water acidified with acetic acid 3 wt, which was determined by analysis of extraction yields and...
full textCharacterization of aflatoxigenic Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus strain isolates from animal feedstuffs in northeastern Iran
Aflatoxins are secondary toxic metabolites produced by some Aspergillus spp. particularly, Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus that contaminate food and feed. The objective of this study was to evaluate the contamination of feedstuffs with Aspergillus spp. and detect genes involved in the aflatoxin biosynthesis pathway of A. flavus and A. parasiticus isolates. A total of 110 cow feed samples ...
