The Impact of Teaching on Health Belief Model Constructs in the Preventive Behaviors of Metabolic Syndrome in Premenopausal Women over 40 Years of Gachsaran

Aims: The goal of this study is to investigate the impact of teaching on the health belief model constructs in the preventive behaviors of metabolic syndrome in premenopausal women over 40 years of Gachsaran. Methods: 130 females who visited health and treatment centers were divided into two groups of control and intervention. The instrument for gathering data was a questionnaire containing demographic information, anthropometric measurement and questions related to the health belief model. After doing the pretest in both groups, only the intervention group was given instruction on preventive behaviors of metabolic syndrome disease. The collected data were analyzed using a Paired T-test and independent T-test. SPSS (22) was used to analyze the data Findings: Despite the fact that the two groups were similar at the beginning of the study, after giving the teaching, a significant difference of perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, perceived self-efficacy and knowledge in the intervention group. A significant difference was also observed in both groups with respect to cues to action. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicated the impact of educational intervention on women's beliefs, thus it can be suggested that an educational program based on the Health Belief Model be used to prevent this disease.
