Abstract:

Objective(s): The aim of the present study was to assess the effects of vitamin C (Vit C) on hemolytic anemia induced by phenylhydrazine (PHZ). Materials and Methods: Twenty-four healthy male mice were divided into four groups, randomly: Control group (0.1 ml/day, normal slaine, IP), PHZ group that received only PHZ 8 mg/100 g/48 hr, IP, PHZ+Vit C group that received PHZ 8 mg/100 g/48 hr, IP and Vit C 100 mg/kg BW-1/day by gavage and Vit C group that received 100 mg/kg BW-1/day Vit C by gavage. After 35 days, germinal cells, RNA damage, sperm parameters, testis malondialdehyde (MDA) content, serum total antioxidant capacity (TAC), pre-implantation embryo development and mRNA levels of cyclin D1 and c-myc in two-cell, and morula and blastocyst stages were assessed.  Results: Vit C reduced the RNA damage, enhanced sperm quality, promoted pre-implantation embryo development and improved testicular antioxidant and endocrine status (P

Protective Effect of Cynara scolymus L. on Blood Biochemical Parameters and Liver Histopathological Changes in Phenylhydrazine-induced Hemolytic Anemia in Rats

Background: Artichoke (Cynara scolymus) possesses bioactive components with antioxidant effects. This plant has been widely used in traditional medicine.  Objectives: The current study aimed to examine the protective activity of Hydroethanolic Extract of Cynara scolymus (HECS) against experimentally-induced hemolytic anemia in rats. Methods: Hemolytic anemia was induced by intraperitoneal inj...

Protective effect of ethyl pyruvate on mice sperm parameters in phenylhydrazine induced hemolytic anemia

The aim of the present study was to assess the protective effect of ethyl pyruvate (EP) on sperm quality parameters, testosterone level and malondialdehyde (MDA) in phenylhydrazine (PHZ) treated mice. For this purpose, 32 NMRI mice with the age range of 8 to 10 weeks, weight average 26.0 ± 2.0 g, were randomly divided into four equal groups. The control group (1) received normal saline (0. 1 mL...

Effect of Vitamin C, as an Antioxidant, on Immobilization-Induced Changes in Sexual Behavior and Sperm Count in Male Mice

Sexual behavior in males is vulnerable to stress and it has been suggested that alterations in sexual behavior during stress is concomitant with spermatogenesis dysfunction. In this study, we investigated the effects of immobilization on sexual behavior and whether or not these effects are accompanied by changes in spermatogenesis process. The effect of antioxidant treatment on the sexual behav...

Study The Protective Effect of Quercetin on Testis Histological Changes and Spermatogenesis Indexes in Adult Mice Following Treatment with Dexamethasone

Introdution: Dexamethasone is used in inflammatory disease, leukemia and nausea, which increases the oxygen free radicals in the testis as a consequence. The aim of this study was to study the protective effect of Quercetin as a plant flavonoid and strong antioxidant on testis histological changes and Spermatogenesis indexes in adult mice following treatment with Dexamethasone. Methods: 24 adu...
