The effect of nano-curcumin on HbA1c, fasting blood glucose, and lipid profile in diabetic subjects: a randomized clinical trial
Authors
Abstract:
Objective: Diabetes mellitus is defined as a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both or insulin resistance. Curcumin inhibits NF-κB signaling pathway. The aim of this study is evaluation of the effect of Nano-curcumin on HbA1C, fast blood glucose and lipid profile in diabetic patients. Materials and Methods: Seventy type-2 diabetic patients (fasting blood glucose (FBG) ≥ 126 mg/dL or 2-hr postprandial blood glucose ≥200 mg/dl) randomly receivedeither Curcumin (as nano-micelle 80 mg/day) or placebo for 3 months in a double blind randomized clinical trial. Fasting blood glucose, HbA1C, and lipids profile were checked before and after the intervention. Data analyses, including parametric and nonparametric tests were done using the SPSS 11.5 software. A p value < 0.05 was regarded as statistically significant. (RCT registration code: IRCT2013081114330N1) Results: Mean age, BMI, FBG, total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), LDL, HDL, HbA1c , and sex and had no significant difference at the baseline between the groups. In Nano-curcumin group, a significant decrease was found in HbA1C, FBG, TG, and BMI comparing results of each subject before and after the treatment (p

full textEffects of dairy Products on Fasting Blood Glucose, Insulin Resistance, Blood Pressure, and Lipid Profile in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes: A Randomized, Controlled Clinical Trial
Introduction: This randomized controlled clinical trial aimed to investigate the effects of dairy product consumption on fasting blood glucose, insulin resistance, blood pressure, and lipid profile in patients with type 2 diabetes. Materials and Methods: Ninety-one diabetic patients were randomly assigned to one of the following three groups: group A, <1 serving of dairy products per day; group...
full textThe Effects of 6 Isocaloric Meals Pattern on Blood Lipid Profile, Glucose, Hemoglobin A1c, Insulin and Malondialdehyde in Type 2 Diabetic Patients: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Background: The present clinical trial study aims at investigating the effect of daily energy intake in 6 isocaloric meals in comparison with the current meal pattern (3 meals and 2 small snacks per day) on type 2 diabetes risk markers in diabetes during 3-month period. Methods: Eighty four type 2 diabetes patients were randomly divided into 6 isocaloric meal diet or a balanced diet (3 meals an...
full textEffect of nano-magnesium oxide on glucose concentration and lipid profile in diabetic laboratory mice
Nano-sized drugs have better distribution than their identical forms. Magnesium is the cofactor of various enzymes in lipid and glucose metabolism. In this study the effect of nano-magnesium oxide (nano-MgO) on glucose concentration and lipid profile in diabetes induced mice was evaluated in 21 laboratory mice. Mice were divided randomly into three equal groups (control, treatment and placebo)....
full textEffect of Chromium Supplementation on Blood Glucose, Hemoglobin A1c, Lipid Profile and Lipid Peroxidation in Type 2 Diabetic Patients
Objective: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a complex metabolic disorder with adverse cardiovascular risk. Chromium (Cr) is an essential nutrient and its role in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism has not been clarified especially in Iran. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of chromium picolinate administration on blood glucose, HbA1c, lipid profile and lipid peroxidation in type 2 diab...
