The effect of mental health education on mental health Promotion and quality of life of elderly teachers

Introduction and purpose:Older people are a rapidly growing in worldwide. It is important to maintain the mental health and quality of life of the elderly. This study aimed to determine the effect of mental health education on promoting mental health and quality of life in older teachers. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study was performed on 84 retired teachers. The experimental group received five sessions of training. Demographic characteristics, quality of life and general health questionnaires were completed by self-report. Data were analyzed using SPSS 16 software. Findings:: According to the finding of mental health, Pre-test in experimental and control group had no significant difference (P = 0.41). But the after mental health education was significantly different (P = 0.0001).The mean score of quality of life in the experimental and the control group was not significantly different (P = 0.52). There). But the after mental health education was significantly different (P = 0.0001). Conclusion:The findings of this study show the positive impact of mental health education programs on mental health status and quality of life in the elderly. Therefore, using this educational approach is suggested to improve and promote mental health and quality of life
