Abstract:

Aims: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of exercise training with resveratrol on PGC-1α and PDK4 gene expression in gastrocnemius muscle tissue of elderly type 2 diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: 42 male rats with type 2 diabetes, 250 to 300 g were divided into 6 groups; healthy-control, diabetic-control, diabetic+interval exercise, Diabetic+Supplement, Diabetic+interval exercise+ Supplement and Saline. The exercise included 10 sets of one-minute activity with 50% intensity and 2 minutes of rest between sets, and each week increased by 2 m per minute. The daily 20 mg/kg body weight Resveratrol supplementation was injected to rats. Gene expression PDK4 and PGC-1α in the muscle gastrocnemius were measured by RT-PCR method. Findings: The results showed that the highest expression of PDK4 and PGC-1α gene in gastrocnemius muscle was observed in supplementation+interval exercise and lowest levels in patient and saline groups. Conclusion: The results showed that the combination of resveratrol and interval exercise can have beneficial effects on PDK4 and PGC-1α gene expression in gastrocnemius muscle of elderly with type 2 diabetes mice and ultimately reduce the risks of diabetes complications.

THE EFFECTS OF INTERVAL TRAINING INTENSITY ON SKELETAL MUSCLE PGC-1Α IN TYPE2 DIABETIC MALE RATS

Background: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of a 12 weeks interval training with high and moderate intensity on PGC-1α of skeletal muscle in type 2 diabetic male rats. Methods: 40 male rats were divided into two groups: High fat diet (HFD) (n=32) and standard diet (C) (n=8) for 10 weeks. After inducing type2 diabetes via STZ, 8 diabetic rats (D) and 8 rats in group C rats ...

THE EFFECT OF EIGHT-WEEK HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING (HIIT) AND CAFFEINE INTAKE ON THE PGC-1Α EXPRESSION IN SOLEUS MUSCLE IN DIABETIC RATS INDUCED STREPTOZOTOCIN

Background: The relationship between low PGC-1α expression and several metabolic diseases such as diabetes and obesity has been identified. This study investigates the effect of eight-week high intensity interval training (HIIT) and caffeine intake on mitochondrial biogenesis in soleus muscle in diabetic rats induced Streptozotocin. Methods: In a clinical-interventional animal study, 50 male r...
