The effect of education by Peers with education by Health Personnel on blood pressure and treatment adherence in patient with hypertension

Abstract:

Introduction: Since the hypertension disease is asymptomatic, Compliance and adherence is one of the essential problems. With a positive view to training either through health personnel and peer group in various aspects of life this study aimed to compare the effectiveness of training by peers with health personnel on blood pressure and adherence to treatment in hypertensive patient was done. Methods: This study is a field trial was carried out In1393 year on 265 patients with hypertension in Yasuj. These individuate were selected by convenience sampling and randomly divided into three groups, peer education, personnel training and control groups. After completing the questionnaire and measurement of their blood pressure and the preparation of the peer and staff in 4 weeks . In each session, one month and two months after the completion of the sessions was measured their blood pressure.  Again, at the end of the last session and 2 months later, the questionnaires were completed by al l participants. The data collected were anet et al yzed by using SPSS software by taking Et et al fa coefficient 0.05. For data anet et al ysis, based on the existence of the necessary conditions of parametric and non-parametric tests were used. Frequency tables were used to describe data and to assess the normal distribution of data، Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used. In the case of normal  distribution was used of paired sample t-test and otherwise the non-parametric test such as Krusket et al  Wet et al lis, Wilcoxon signed-rank, the Mann–Whitney and Bonferron  was applied. Results: Covariance anet et al ysis indicate the effect of education (by peer and heet et al th staff) to reduces blood pressure and increase the adherence in patient Mann–Whitney test showed that the results showed that at the end of intervention in lowering blood pressure, the effect of staff has been more than matched that in two months the effect is similar. At the end of the intervention, in terms of adherence to treatment, peer and staff equet et al ly effective in increasing adherence to treatment and two months after the intervention more effective control of personnel. Conclusion: Education by peer group and health personnel groups educes blood pressure and increase the adherence. But according to the cost-effectiveness and don, t need to have special equipment, peer education is recommended.
