Survey of the Level of Clients Awareness about the Principles of Cupping and the Causes of Haziran Cupping in Clients Referring to Cupping Centers in Mashhad and Birjand in 2019

Aims: Cupping is one of the preventive and treatment methods in Persian medicine, which is done in two ways, dry and wet. The important point is that cupping should be done at the appropriate time and place and for qualified people to have the most beneficial effects. This study was conducted to investigate the causes of Haziran cupping, and the level of people's awareness about the conditions and principles of cupping. Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 2019 in Mashhad and Birjand during the last week of June and the first week of July. Finally, 400 people were determined. Samples were selected easily (available). Study data were analyzed by SPSS version 16. Findings: 392 cases approved by the study, 62.8% (246 persons) of the participants were male, and 75.1% (292 persons) were married. 40/3% (154 persons) of the clients had a university education, and 77/7% (289 persons) of them had average socio-economic status. 82/2% (53 persons) of the women were housewives, and 6.6% (26 persons) of patients had an underlying disease. 40.8% (119 persons) of the clients had two times history or more a year of cupping, and 42.7% (132 persons) of the clients had moderate satisfaction from cupping down. In this study, the most common cause of cupping was maintaining the health of clients (73.9% - 272 persons) and in the next stage, was for the disease treatment. Regarding the level of people's awareness about the principles of cupping, it was found that more than half of the clients had correct information about the best season of the year to do cupping (spring) 81.5% (255 persons), satiety at the cupping time 74.4% (210 persons), the appropriate time for bathing after Cupping (after 24 hours) 79.7% (240 persons), type nutrition after cupping (Honey) 64.7% (189 persons) and complications due to cupping 69.3% (185 persons), but the level of clients' knowledge was not desirable in other cases such as the best hour of cupping per day 46.9% (130 persons), the best days of the week 21.3% (62 persons), and the best days of the month for cupping 35.6% (86 persons),. Conclusion:Due to the high popularity of Haziran cupping, and considering the low level of client awareness about the proper principles and conditions of cupping, such as the cupping time, it is necessary to inform the community through the media and use specialists in traditional medicine to monitor proper cupping and its principles in these centers.
