Abstract:

Partial least squares modeling as a powerful multivariate statistical tool was applied tothe simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of silicate and phosphate in aqueoussolutions. The concentration range for silicate and phosphate were 0.02-0.6 and 0.4-3 μg ml-1,respectively. The experimental calibration set was composed with 30 sample solutions using amixture design for two component mixtures. The absorption spectra were recorded from 500 to900 nm. The optimum conditions were obtained by simplex optimization method. The values ofroot mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) for silicate and phosphate using partial leastsquares (PLS) were 0.0017 and 0.02 μg ml-1, respectively. The effects of various cations andanions on detection of silicate and phosphate were investigated. The method was successfullyused for determination of silicate and phosphate in boiler water at power plant, well water andsewage samples.

Simultaneous Spectrophotometric Determination of Iron, Cobalt and Copper by Partial Least-Squares Calibration Method in Micellar Medium

Iron, cobalt and copper are metals, which appear together in many real samples, both natural and artificial. Recently a classical univariate micellar colorimetric method has been developed for determination of these metal ions. The organized molecular assemblies such as micelles are used in spectroscopic measurements due to their possible effects on the systems of interest. The ability of mi...

Spectrophotometric simultaneous determination of nickel, cobalt and copper by orthogonal signal correction–partial least squares

A method for the simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of nickel, cobalt and copper based on theformation of their complexes with 2-(2-Thiazolylazo)-p-Cresol (TAC) in micellar media of Triton X-100 isproposed. The absorbance spectra were recorded in the range of 500 to 800 nm. The linear concentrationrange for nickel, cobalt and copper in solution calibration sets were 0.05–1.80, 0.10–6...

Simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of lead, copper and nickel using xylenol orange by partial least squares

A partial least squares (PLS) calibration model was developed for the simultaneous spectrophotometricdetermination of Pb (ΙΙ), Cu (ΙΙ) and Ni (ΙΙ) using xylenol orange as a chromogenic reagent. The parameterscontrolling behavior of the system were investigated and optimum conditions were selected. The calibrationgraphs were linear in the ranges of 0.0–9.091, 0.0–2.719 and 0.0–2.381 ppm for lead...
