Relationship between head nurses' ethical leadership and demographic characteristics with general self-efficacy of critical care wards nurses of educational-treatment centers of Hamadan University of Medical Sciences, 2019

Introduction: Ethical leadership has emerged as a new approach in the perspective of leadership and by prioritizing ethics in the organization, has provided the basis for creating and promoting individual and organizational effectiveness.Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between head nurses’ ethical leadership and demographic characteristics with general self-efficacy of critical care wards nurses. Materials and methods: This is descriptive correlational study which was done in 2019 using stratified proportional sampling on 230 nurses who worked in critical care wards of educational-treatment centers of Hamadan University of Medical Sciences. Data were collected by ethical leadership in nursing and Scherrer's general self-efficacy questionnaires. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and infrentional statistics (by SPSS 21 software. Results: There was no statistically significant relationship between ethical leadership of head nurses with nurses' general self-efficacy. The general self-efficacy of formal nurses was higher than conventional (p=0.04) and design (p=0.02) nurses, and ICU nurses were higher than burn (p=0.03). Also, with increasing work experience, general self-efficacy decreases (P<0.05). The normalized importance level of the independent variables on the dependent variable according to the neural network output was calculated as: work experience 100, pioneering 74.8, duty management 56.2, ethics 52, workplace department 47.6, age 46.4, job status 1.38, gender 1.37, power sharing 27, education 13.3. Conclusion: Due to the significant relationship between some demographic variables and nurses 'general self-efficacy, nursing managers are advised to consider these related factors, especially in retraining, to improve nurses' general self-efficacy.
