Relationship Between Family Participation in Sport-recreation aActivities with mMarital and Life Satisfaction

Aims: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between family participation in sport-recreation activities with marital satisfaction and life satisfaction. Methods & materials: The research method was a survey correlation. The statistical population included all families living in Mashhad. Using the cluster sampling method, the researcher referred to selected parks of Mashhad and distributed the questionnaires to families who came together to the park for recreation. Considering the unknown number of statistical populations, the statistical sample was determined as 384 individuals according to Morgan table. To observe the sample size, 500 questionnaires were distributed and collected.  However, 430 questionnaires arrived at this study. Data tools included Handrich Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire and Newgarten Life Satisfaction Questionnaire. Using Cronbachchr('39')s alpha coefficient, the reliability was calculated as 0.82 for the marital satisfaction questionnaire and as 0.88 for the life satisfaction questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Cronbachchr('39')s alpha, Pearson correlation test, and linear regression were also used. Data were analyzed by using SPSS software version 22. Findings: The findings showed that 54.18% of the respondents were female. Besides, most of the participants (75.8%) were in the 30-60-year-old age group. The results of the hypotheses’ test showed a significant relationship between marital satisfaction with weekly, monthly and annual participation of families in sport recreation activities. There was also a significant relationship between weekly, monthly and annual participation of families in sport recreation activities and life satisfaction. Conclusion:  Totally, 19.99% of the total variance of life satisfaction changes is predicted by marital satisfaction.
