Protective effect of silver nano particles against ovarian polycystic induced by morphine in rat
Authors
Abstract:
Background and Objective: Morphine can cause harmful effects in the ovaries. The silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) used in health care because of antimicrobial properties, can diffuse into the brain blood barrier. This study investigated the protective effect of Ag-NPs on the induction of polycystic ovary (PCO) due to injection of morphine intra-ventromedial hypothalamus (intra-VMH) of rat compared with the animal receiving the drug (10-100 mg/kg) intraperitoneally (i.p.) twice daily for 7 days to lead to addiction. Materials and Methods: The rats (bought of Pasture Institute of Iran weighing 200-250 g) were housed under standard conditions and fed ad libitum. They were randomly divided to addict to drug or morphine (0.001 to 0.4 μg/rat) receiving into the VMH (AP: -1.92) a week after stereotaxic surgery. Ag-Nps (0.01, 0.001 and 0.0001 μg/rat) were administered intra-VMH alone or prior to morphine effective dose (0.4 μg/rat). Control group was given only saline. By the end of the treatment, the animals’ ovaries and/or brain were dissected and studied histopathologically. The ovaries were also checked by the marker of the NO, NADPH-diaphorase. Results: All experimental rats’ ovaries treated morphine showed polycystic characteristics and the NO activation was evidenced in the ovaries in the comparison with the saline group (p

Protective Effect of Safranal against Gentamicin-Induced Nephrotoxicity in Rat
Gentamicin is an important aminoglycoside antibiotic. However its use is limited to serious and life threatening gram negative infections, because of its high nephrotoxicity potential in patients. There are reports that safranal, the active ingredient of saffron with antioxidant properties, exerts protective effect against ischemic injuries occurred by certain nephrotoxins including gentamicin....

Background: Hexachlorobutadiene (HCBD) is a potent nephrotoxin in rodents, which can cause degeneration, necrosis and regeneration in renal tubular epithelial cells. It has been shown that safranal, the active ingredient of saffron, has a protective effect against ischemic injuries. The aim of this study was to examine the protective effect of safranal against HCBD-induced nephrotoxicity in rat...
full textOvarian Polycystic Induction with Morphine in Wistar Rat
Background and Objective: The effect of opioids on the reproductive system has been studied as an attractive research field. In this study, the effect of morphine as an analgesic opioid was evaluated on the ovarian polycystic induction in the rat. Materials & Methods: In this study, 24 female virgin Wistar rats weighing 200-250 g were injected with morphine (1-10 mg/kg/day) for 9 days. Control ...

The anti-apoptotic gene bcl-2 is located in mitochondria, but it is uncertain whether its expression affects hepatocyte survival in ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. This experiment was designed to evaluate the role of folic acid in expression of bcl-2 in I/R in rat liver. Eighteen Wister rats were divided into sham-operated controlgroup (C) (n=6), I/R group (...

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a reproductive and metabolic disorder in which thelevel of oxidative elements in blood rises. Green tea is a potent antioxidant since it containscatechins. In this study, the effect of hydro-alcoholic green tea extract on PCOS rats was examined. For PCOS induction, 96 mature Wistar rats were given estradiol valerate. After 60 days, therats were divided into fo...
