Numerical Study Scour Pattern on Channel Bend Using Flow-3D Software
author
Abstract:
In nature, a direct route to the river is uncommon. Most rivers have channels that bend wherea complex scour pattern dominates. We have intended to study the behavior patterns necessary to scour a river known as the dominant bends. Numerical models are powerful instruments for the prediction of such areas and can provide a good understanding of these areas. In the present study we have used a three-dimensional numerical model Flow-3D to determine the effects of parameter U/Uc, flow rate and channel width of the scour pattern at a 90 degree arc of the moving beds. The results were compared with experimental data. Analysis of results relevant to scour pattern in cross sections and different plans were among other points introduced in this paper.

simulation of flow pattern around inclined bridge group pier using flow-3d software
introduction: bridges are certainly one of the most important structures but costly service elements in a transport system. the bridges are very required to access the damaged areas in emergency situations such as floods and earthquakes. scour around the foundations of bridge piers exposed to the flowing water than can destroy the bridge itself is a subject of major concern. flow pattern is kno...
full textSimulation of local scour caused by submerged horizontal jets with Flow-3D numerical model
One of the most concerning issues for researchers is to predict the shape and dimensions of the scour pit nearhydraulic structures such as the base of bridges, weirs, valves and stilling basins due to both financial and humanhazards induced by destruction of the structure. As the scour issue has its own complexity in relation to themultiplicity of effecting factors on it, in this study therefor...
full textNumerical study of flow of labyrinth weir with triangular and curved plan form using Fluent software
Labyrinth weirs have not a straight crest in the perpendicular direction to the flow. The plan view of the weir consists of multiple and broken linear crests that cause the increase of its effective length. The advantages of this type of weirs are higher discharge capacity, easy aeration as well as low fluctuations of water surface at the weir upstream. This paper deals with the simulation of t...

full textNumerical Study of Reynolds Number Effects on Flow over a Wall-Mounted Cube in a Channel Using LES
Turbulent flow over wall-mounted cube in a channel was investigated numerically using Large Eddy Simulation. The Selective Structure Function model was used to determine eddy viscosity that appeared in the subgrid scale stress terms in momentum equations. Studies were carried out for the flows with Reynolds number ranging from 1000 to 40000. To evaluate the computational results, data was compa...
