No change of IL-1B in the presence of weight loss and abdominal obesity induced by aerobic training without dietary restrictions in obese women

Background: Obesity is associated with systemic inflammation and related with cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes mellitus. In present study, we aimed to assess the influence of aerobic training on pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1B and in obese women. Methods: To achieve this outcome, thirty sedentary obese women (30 ≤ BMI ≤ 36) aged 30 – 40 years of old were randomly assigned to the experimental (n=15) and control (n=15) groups. Experimental subjects performed a 6-week aerobic training program, three sessions per week consisting of a 10- 40-min running at a work intensity of 60-75% of peak heart rate. Fasting serum IL-1B and anthropometrical indexes were measured before and after aerobic intervention (48 hours after the last exercise session) of 2 groups. The comparisons between the measurements were determined by paired and unpaired samples t test at P-value of < 0.05. Results: At baseline (pre-training), there were no statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups with regard to serum IL-1B and anthropometrical indexes (P > 0.05). Exercise intervention resulted in significant decrease in abdominal circumference and other obesity indicative (P < 0.05). No significant change in serum IL-1B was observed after aerobic intervention when compared with pre-training in experimental groups (p = 0.219). All variables remained no change in control subjects (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The findings of this study reveal that aerobic training intervention in absence to in the absence of control diet is not associated with anti-inflammatory property with emphasis on serum IL-1B in obese females.
