Also, food and water intake of many drugs such as PCP and its analogues have been studied in laboratory animals. In this work, two derivatives (II, III) of phencyclidine were tested for feeding behaviors effects on rats and compared to PCP and vehicle (saline) . The results showed that, both derivatives can increase food and water intake in comparison to the PCP and vehicle (control) groups that have measured 1-12 h for food and 30–180 min for water intake after injection.

Interaction of intracerebroventricular injection of captopril and histamine on water intake in adult male Wistar rats

Several evidences have indicated that many nuclei in the brain have critical role in water intake. Angiotensin II is one of the most important neurotransmitters involved in regulation of fluid homeostasis. In this study, the interaction of i.c.v. injection of captopril and histamine on water intake in adult male water-deprived rats was investigated. Rats were implanted with guide cannula aimed ...

The Effect of Phencyclidine New Derivatives on Anxiety Behaviors in Rats

Objective(s) Anxiety is a common disorder which afflicts many people in any society and is often accompanied by physiological sensations such as tachycardia, chest pain, shortness of breath, insensitivity, etc. The purpose of present study was to evaluate the putative anxiolytic-like effects of phencyclidine ('-('-phenylcyclohexyl) piperidine, CAS 956-90-1, PCP, I) and its methyl and methoxy h...

Effect of melatonin supplementation on food and water intake in streptozotocin-diabetic and non-diabetic male Wistar rats.

The effect of orally supplemented melatonin (MT) at 1 mg/kg bw for 4 weeks on feeding behavior of non-diabetic and diabetic male Wistar rats has been studied by computerized meal pattern analysis. Exogenous MT has a satiating effect in non-diabetic rats, but not in diabetic animals. The changes in feeding behavior induced by MT in non-diabetic animals are related to changes in meal frequency, s...

Effect of sulpiride injection into ventromedial nucleus of hypothalamus on food and water intake and weight in male rats

Weight gain, obesity and hyperprolactinemia are important complications of long-term administration of neuroleptic drugs, which may affect the patient's general health and well- being that itself interferes with treatment compliance. The purpose of this study was to identify the mechanism of occurrence of these side-effects. Because of the important role of ventromedial nucleus of hypothalamus ...

Effects of fructose consumption on food intake and biochemical and body parameters in Wistar rats.

INTRODUTION AND OBJECTIVE Increased fructose consumption is associated with various metabolic changes that favor the onset of obesity and related comorbidities. The objective of this study was to assess the effects of chronic fructose consumption on body weight and adipose tissue, as well as on serum glucose and triglyceride levels. METHODS Thirty-day-old Wistar rats were divided into two gro...
