Investigating the Quality Components of Educational Performance of Faculty Members: A Qualitative Study

Abstract:

Background and Purpose The success of universities and higher education institutions in achieving their educational goals and expectations requires improving and ensuring the quality of education. The purpose of this study was to describe the quality components of educational performance of faculty members. Methods This is a qualitative exploratory descriptive study. Data collection was done through in-depth semi-structured interviews and their analysis was based on thematic analysis. The key research participants were faculty members of Yasuj University of Medical Sciences out of which 18 were selected through purposeful sampling. Initially, two general questions about the quality of educational performance components were asked to start the interview and were guided by the participants' responses to the interview process. Each interview lasted between one hour and thirty minutes to two hours on average, and the place of work was the faculty room. Interviews continued until theoretical saturation. Results Initially, 47 cases were extracted from the basic themes. Then it was reduced to 14 organizing themes based on their similarity and composition. Finally, these themes were categorized into four areas (inclusive themes) including educational evaluation, educational planning, educational features and educational strategies. Thirty faculty members were used to confirm the accuracy of the obtained classes. At the end of the qualitative model, these factors were designed. Conclusion According to qualitative analysis, the quality of faculty members 'educational performance is a multidimensional concept that each dimension's performance is related to other dimensions, and the quality of faculty members' educational performance depends on the performance of all dimensions and the relationship between its concepts.
