Investigating the Mental Health Status and Its Related Factors among the Students of Guilan University of Medical Sciences

Introduction: Students are the main parts of society and their health is very important. Today, the mental health of students because of many problems is at risk. Researchers are trying to improve students' health by examining various aspects of mental health and its related factors. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the mental health status of the students of Guilan University of Medical Sciences and the factors affecting it. Method: This is a cross-sectional-analytical study that was performed on 150 students of Guilan University of Medical Sciences in the academic year of 1399. Convenient nonprobable sampling was used and the data collection instruments consisted of two parts: demographic information and the Goldberg 28-item general health questionnaire (GHQ-28). Data were analyzed by using Chi-square test and Fisher's Exact test through SPSS. Findings: In this study, 80.5% of the students had optimal general health and 19.5% of the students had general disorders. In addition, there was a statistically significant relationship between the duration of the study by the students in terms of depression. (P=0.023) Conclusion: According to the results, most of the students of Guilan University of Medical Sciences are in good mental health. However, maintaining and promoting the psychological dimension of students' health requires the provision of preventive measures and counseling services to students.
