Investigating the Effect of Current Type (Direct and Pulsed) on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Hastelloy B-2 Superalloy Welded Joint by GTAW Process
Authors
Abstract:
In this research, Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) on Hastelloy B-2 Superalloy was used to investigate the effect of current type on microstructure and mechanical properties of welded zone. The welding process was performed using two direct and pulsed current and with Hastelloy X filler metal. Optical Microscope (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) were used to investigate the microstructure and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) was used to analysis the precipitations. The microscopic observation showed that applying pulsed current led to a significant reduction in the size of the dendrites and microstructure in the weld metal. Hardness results showed that with direct current the hardness of weld metal is 300 Vickers while with pulsed current hardness is 330 Vickers. In the tensile test, all samples were fractured softly from the base metal. Also, the specimen welded with pulsed current has better tensile properties (elongation %50, yield strength 434 MPa and ultimate tensile strength 660 MPa).

The Effect of the AA7075 Interlayer on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of the AA1050 Butt Joint Welded by FSW
In this research, the FSW Butt joint of commercial aluminum 1050 was investigated by using the 7075 aluminum alloy interlayer on the linear velocity of 30, 50 and 100 mm / min, and rotational speeds of 800 and 1200 rpm. A threaded cylindrical tool was used for joining of the 5 mm sheets. The OM, SEM, microhardness and tensile tests were done. The results shows that in sample with an interlayer ...

full textThe effect of transvers speeds on microstructure and mechanical properties of the AA2024 to AA6061 joint welded by FSW
Friction Stir Welding is one of the solid-state processes and today it has been used to join different types of materials. Friction stir welding does not have many problems and limitations due to melting and solidification of weld metal and by controlling its variables, the microstructure and desired mechanical properties can be achieved at the joint. Recently, in most industrial areas, due t...
