Investigate the effect of social skills training on reducing classroom silence, fear of negative evaluation and shyness of female students

Abstract:
Introduction: Shyness is defined as a complex phenomenon including mental, psychological and social factors that is characterized by anxiety in social situations or interpersonal behaviors due to being concern about others’ evaluation. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of social skills training on reducing classroom silence, fear of negative evaluation and shyness of female students in Khorramabad city. Method: The method of this study is based on pre-test-post-test with control group. The statistical population includes upper secondary school students in Khorramabad city 40 of whom were selected by multi-stage random cluster sampling among the target population. Data were collected by Behnamfar, Zameni and Enayatichr('39')s classroom silence questionnaire (2015), Daliri’s negative evaluation questionnaire (1983) and Cheek & Melchior shyness scale (1990). The descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (multivariate covariance analysis) were used to analyze the data. Results: The results of the study showed that social skills training reduced the classroomchr('39')s silent behavior, fear of negative evaluation and shyness in female upper secondary school students of Khorramabad city (F = 22.82, P<0.001). Conclusion: According to the results of the research it can be concluded that providing students with social skills training increases social skills in students that enjoying such skills reduced the classroom silence behavior fear of negative evaluation and shyness in students in social situations.
