Abstract:

Background: NPs (NPs) with unique chemical and physical properties can be used for therapeutic purposes because of their strong antimicrobial activates. NPs have been used as an antimicrobial agents to inhibit microbial growth. Objectives: In view of the strong antimicrobial activity of NPs, the biogenic synthesis and leishmanicidal activity of rod-shaped zinc oxide (R-ZnO) NPs was explored using Lilium ledebourii tuber extract.Materials and Methods: The ensuing NPs are characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy and their leishmanicidal activity evaluated against the Leishmania major (L. major) by MTT assay. Results: The R-ZnO NPs displayed excellent leishmanicidal activity against the L. major as they significantly inhibited the amastigotes. The IC50 values of R-ZnO NPs being ~ 0.001 mg.mL-1. R-ZnO NPs can inhibit L. major growth in a dose-dependent manner under in vitro conditions. Conclusion: A simple, low-cost feasible and eco-friendly procedure was developed for biosynthesis of R-ZnO NPs using natural bioresource that can inhibit human parasite cells growth in a dose-dependent manner under in vitro conditions.

detection of volatile compounds of medicinal plants with some nano-sorbents using modified or new methodologies and investigation of antioxidant activity of their methanolic extracts

in this work, a novel and fast method for direct analysis of volatile compounds (davc) of medicinal plants has been developed by holding a filament from different parts of a plant in the gc injection port. the extraction and analysis of volatile components of a small amount of plant were carried out in one-step without any sample preparation. after optimization of temperature, extraction time a...

Investigation of cytotoxicity properties of zinc oxide nanoparticles in spherical and rod shaped on leukemia cells

In this study, we reported a method to associate doxorubicin drug on folic acid functionalized SiO2/ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) in rod and spherical shapes. The clinical usage of the anticancer drug, doxorubicin (DOX), is limited by severe side effects and cell resistance. Targeted drug delivery by binding DOX to nanoparticles could overcome these limitations. The surface functionalization of the Z...

Green synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles using Seaweed aqueous extract and evaluation of antibacterial and ecotoxicological activity

Abstract Green synthesized nanomaterials have garnered much attention due to their economic and ecofriendly benefits over common chemical methods of synthesis. In the present study, zinc oxide nanoparticles with an average diameter of 16.51 nm were successfully biosynthesized using the aqueous extract of the red seaweed Hypnea musciformis. The morphology, purity and quality of biosynthesiz...

comparison of catalytic activity of heteropoly compounds in the synthesis of bis(indolyl)alkanes.

heteropoly acids (hpa) and their salts have advantages as catalysts which make them both economically and environmentally attractive, strong br?nsted acidity, exhibiting fast reversible multi-electron redox transformations under rather mild conditions, very high solubility in polar solvents, fairly high thermal stability in the solid states, and efficient oxidizing ability, so that they are imp...
