Five new species of Penicillium and Talaromyces for mycobiota of Iran
Authors
Abstract:
During study on biodiversity of Penicillium and Talaromyces species occurring on grape berries and raisin in vineyards of East- & West Azarbaijan and Gazvin provinces of Iran, five species of Penicillium and Talaromyces, namely, Penicillium crocicola, P. olsonii, P. sumatrense, Talaromyces atroroseus and T. minioluteus were characterized based on combination of morphological data and β-tubulin gene sequence. A phylogeny inferred based on sequence data of β-tubulin gene clustered our isolates together with representative type strains for each species from GenBank. All five species are new for the mycobiota of Iran. This work presents the first study on biodiversity of Penicillium and Talaromyces species on grape and raisin in this region of Iran.

Fomitiporia mediterranea, a new basidiomycete species for mycobiota of Iran
During last decade, the decline of elm trees was observed in Fars province (Iran) due to a wood decaying agent in heartwood of the trees. Unknown basidiomycete isolates were frequently isolated from such trees. The objective of the present study was to identify the basidiomycete isolates by molecular phylogenetic analysis of the internal transcribed spacers of ribosomal DNA. For this purpose, i...
full textThree Penicillium species new for the mycobiota of Iran from soils of the National Park of Urmia Lake
In a survey on the biodiversity of Penicillium species in soils of the National Park of Urmia Lake (NW Iran), eight Penicillium isolates were isolated as members of the section Citrina. Based on a combination of cultural and morphological criteria, the isolates were identified as Penicillium anatolicum, P. sanguifluum, and P. sizovae. The identity of each species was further confirmed using sequ...
full textNew records of Colletotrichum species for the mycobiota of Iran
Sixteen isolates of Colletotrichum were collected from leaves with anthracnose symptoms or leaf spots of twelve wild, cultivated and ornamental plant species from the Guilan, Mazandaran, and Golestan provinces in Northern Iran. Five different species, including C. aenigma, C. gigasporum, C. godetiae, C. karstii, and C. musae were identified based on the DNA sequence data (TUB2, GS, GAPDH). Four...
full textThree new species of Pseudocercospora for mycobiota of Iran
Several specimens belonging to the genus Pseudocercospora were collected from different localities of Mazandaran province (N Iran) during the 2011–12. All specimens were microscopically studied and identified. As the result Pseudocercospora abeliae (on Abelia grandiflora), P.rhamnaceicola (on Paliurus spina-christi) and P.sordida (on Campsis grandiflora) are newly recorded for Iran. Furthermore...

During the investigation of fungi associated with black (sooty) head mold of wheat and barley in different regions of Golestan, Alborz and Qazvin provinces (Iran) in growing seasons of 2014–15, several isolates with typical characteristics of the genus Harzia Costantin were collected. Based on the morphological characteristics, all isolates were identified as H. acremonioides (Harz) Costantin.
