Abstract:

Objective: According to the Biomechanical viewpoint, Foot is the functional unit to maintain a balance and transfer the body weight to the ground as well as preparing a lever system for body motion. The purpose of this study is the impact of instantaneous insole on Balance performance of Adolescents with a flat foot and Pes cavus. Methods: 65 Adolescents of Tehran City (11-14 years old) voluntary included in this study. All the subjects fulfilled individual information forms signed by their parents. Demographic data  include Age (12/23± 1/18 yr), Height (153/47 ± 10/04 cm), Body Mass( 42/47 ± 6/23 kg ) , Index foot( 93/29 ± 47/39 ), the Right leg length (24/19 ± 0/49 ) and Left leg length (24/28 ± 0/46).The K-S test for normal distribution of data,  paired T - test to valuate the effect of balance performance of the subjects and independent T- test to compare the two groups of flat foot and Pes cavus was used (P<0.05). Results: paired T-test showed significant effect of using instantaneous insole for dynamic performance (p=0.00) but no significant in Romberg static test (p=0.07). Significant improvement was observed in dynamic test in both Pes cavus and foot flat groups using insole (p=0.00) but no significant difference was observed in Romberg test of both groups (p=0.42 and p=0.10), respectively. Also result of independent T-test showed no significant differences between foot flat and Pes cavus groups in pre-test and post-test of dynamic performance (P=0.99 and p=0.25) as well as  Romberg test (p=0.52, p=0.72) respectively. Conclusion:Use of instantaneous insole would increase dynamic balance of Pes cavus and Foot flat adolescents. The natural arches of foot will reduce systematically the pressures passing through the foot and contribute to postural stability.

Effects of Custom-Mold Insole by Medial Heel Skive Technique on Physical Function in Flexible Flat Foot

Background: Flexible Flat Foot (FFF), a common foot deformity decreasing medial longitudinal arch height is often comorbid with subtalar joint pronation causing physical activity difficulties in this population. Among the orthotic insoles prescribed for improving foot function, foot orthoses with medial heel skive technique have a limited research background. The present study aimed to investig...

Comparing the Effects of Flexible and Rigid Ankle-Foot Orthoses on Balance/Walking Performance in Individuals With Multiple Sclerosis

Background: Ankle-Foot orthoses are used to minimize the impact of weakness in ankle dorsiflexion muscles. The study on different orthotic types defines the optimal design, which effectively improves the users’ mobility. This study investigated the potential benefits and risks of a Dictus-band (flexible orthotic), compared with a thermoplastic (fixed) ankle-foot orthosis on the mobility of indi...
