Abstract:

Mothers of children with severe and profound intellectual disabilities suffer from psychological problems in the COVID-19 outbreak. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of emotion regulation training on fatigue and boredom in mothers of children with severe and profound intellectual disabilities in the COVID-19 outbreak. The research method was quasi-experimental with pre-test and post-test and control groups. The statistical population of this study consisted of all mothers of children with severe and profound intellectual disabilities in Razan city in 2020. Through convenience Among them, 22 mothers had severe symptoms of fatigue and boredom, which were randomly replaced in the experimental and control groups. The Assessment of Fatigue Scale (AFS; DeVries et al., 2003) and Multidimensional Boredom Scale (MBS; Fahlman et al., 2009) were used for collecting the data. The emotion regulation was trained for the experimental group in 8 sessions, and the control group did not receive any training during the sessions. Analysis of variance with repeated measures was used to analyze the data. The results showed that emotion regulation training was effective in reducing fatigue and boredom in mothers of children with severe and profound mental disabilities (p <0.05). According to the results, emotion regulation training to reduce fatigue and boredom of mothers of children with severe and profound mental disabilities in the COVID-19 outbreak is recommended.
