Effect of Exercise Therapy with Medicine Ball on Directed and General Co-contraction of Knee Joint Muscles in Low Back Pain Patients During Walking
Authors
Abstract:
Background and Objectives: Low back pain is a musculoskeletal disorder with an annual prevalence of 18.6%. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of rehabilitation with medicine ball on directed and general co-contraction of knee joint muscles in low back patients during walking, Materials and Methods: The present study was a clinical trial. The statistical population of the present study included patients with low back pain in the age range of 20-30 years in Ardabil in 1399. Participants in the study included 20 men with low back pain, who were randomly assigned (names were placed in a bag and identified randomly and one among extracts and groups) in two The exercise group and the control group were divided. The training group performed 12 sessions of strengthening exercises of the central muscles of the body with the beta medicine ball. Selected muscle activity during walking was recorded in two groups during pre- and post-test Results: Findings demonstrated that general contraction during loading and mid-stance phases increased significantly at post-test than that pre-test. Paired wise comparison demonstrated that directed flexor/extensor knee joint contraction during push off phase increased significantly. Conclusion: Exercise therapy with medicine ball improved directed and general co-contraction of knee joint muscles in low back pain patients during walking.

Effect of exercise therapy with Beta medicine ball on directed and general co-contraction of ankle joint muscles in low back pain patients during walking
Introduction and aim: In the past few decades, exercise has been promoted with increasing interest for the treatment of back pain. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effect of rehabilitation exercises with medicine beta balls on the directional and general contraction of ankle joint muscles in patients with low back pain during walking. Methods: The present study was a clini...
full textComparison of generalised and directed co-contraction of knee joint muscles during four different movements to strengthen the quadriceps
Background: The determinant role of different movements to strengthen the quadriceps on rate of knee joint co-contraction, hamstring to quadriceps muscle activity ratio and vastus medialis to vastus lateralis muscle activity ratio provides useful information for therapists, coaches and athletes about the role of each movement in the rehabilitation of patients with anterior cruc...

Introduction and aim: Ascending and descending stairs are one of the challenging activities for people with patellofemoral pain syndrome. Kinesiotype is one of the rehabilitation methods to improve the symptoms of patellofemoral pain syndrome. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of kinesiotype on electromyographic activity and co-contraction of knee muscles in patients with patellofemoral ...
full textThe effect of Swedish massage on pain, flexion range of motion, the electrical activity of the quadriceps muscles, and their co-contraction with the hamstring muscles during walking in women with medial compartment knee osteoarthritis: a randomized c
Introduction: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is associated with decreased muscle strength, muscle activity, and impaired knee range of motion (ROM). This study aimed to investigate the effect of Swedish massage on pain, the flexion of knee joint ROM, the electrical activity of the quadriceps muscles, and their co-contraction with the hamstring muscles during walking in women with medial compartment ...
full textThe effect of knee orthosis on co-contraction values of knee and ankle muscles during running in people with knee deformity in the frontal plane.
Background and Aims: the use of knee orthosis changes the mechanics of running. One of the important biomechanical factors in rehabilitation and injury prevention is co-contraction of knee and ankle joints. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of knee orthosis on changes in the contraction of knee and ankle muscles during running in people with genu varum. Mat...
