Effect of 8 weeks high intensity interval training with sodium citrate supplementation on PGC-1α and TFAM expression
Authors
Abstract:
Abstract Introduction & Objective: High intensity interval training can promote PGC-1α and TFAM key regulator of mitochondrial biogenesis. Then the purpose of this investigation is to examine the effect of high intensity interval training whit supplementation of sodium citrate on PGC-1α and TFAM expression in soleus muscle of Wistar rats. Methodology: 24 Wistar rats were randomly divided into 3 groups of control, training and training with sodium citrate supplementation. Both training and training with sodium citrate supplementation groups performed high intensity interval training for 8 weeks, five days a week, with the intensity of 50% to 90% maximum running speed on rodent treadmill. The training with supplement group were treated with a dose (15 mmol/L) of sodium citrate by drinking water per day for 8 weeks. Statistical evaluations of the experiments were investigated by applying One-Way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc analysis with a statistical level of p <0.05. Cohen’s d also was calculated to compare groups. Results: Findings indicated significant differences in PGC-1α and TFAM protein level in both training and training with supplement groups compared to control group (p=0.001). Results about sodium citrate supplementation also showed significant differences in training with supplementation group compared to training group (p=0.005). Conclusion: It seems sodium citrate supplementation can induce expression of PGC-1α and TFAM and increases level of PGC-1α and TFAM proteins.

The Effect of Moderate and High Intensity Resistance Training on the Expression of PGC-1α, TFAM and AMPK of Cardiomyocytes in Elderly Rats
Background & objectives: Age-related cardiovascular dysfunction is often accompanied by impaired mitochondrial biogenesis and function. Exercise training can improve mitochondrial function and content in muscle to meet the energy demands of the cells. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of moderate-intensity (MRT) and high-intensity (HRT) resistance training on the ex...

Background: The relationship between low PGC-1α expression and several metabolic diseases such as diabetes and obesity has been identified. This study investigates the effect of eight-week high intensity interval training (HIIT) and caffeine intake on mitochondrial biogenesis in soleus muscle in diabetic rats induced Streptozotocin. Methods: In a clinical-interventional animal study, 50 male r...
