Abstract:

Objective(s):The aim of this study was to evaluate the oxidative status and DNA integrity in testes of wistar rat offspring exposed to omega-9 monounsaturated (MUFA) at different times of late organogenesis. Materials and Methods:Sixty female rats were divided into six groups of 10 animals. The first group served as control and received the drug vehicle, olive oil (1 ml/kg/day). The second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth group received 1000 mg/kg of oleic acid on gestation day 15 (D15), 16 (D16), 17 (D17), 18 (D18) and 19 (D19), respectively. Male pups were allowed to attain puberty and thereafter, blood was taken for hormonal analyses. Sperm count and motility were assessed. Testes homogenate was used for the determination of biochemical variables. Testes DNA was also determined. Results:The results showed that sperm count and motility were significantly decreased in the treated groups as compared to the control. There was a marked increase in the malondialdehyde level in rat testes from all of the treated groups as compared to the control (P

P-13: Comparison of Sperm Quality, Oxidative Stress, DNA Fragmentation, Protamine Deficiency, and DNA Methylation in Varicocele and Fertile Individuals

s:1993:"Background: There are many approaches that gene expression is controlled in eukaryotes. DNA methylation is one of several epigenetic mechanisms that cells use to control gene expression and lock genes in the "off" position. In addition, sperm DNA damage can correlate with DNA methylation defect. There is evidence that sperm of infertile men contain more DNA damage than fertile men and t...

P-240: Effect of Oxidative Stress on DNA Fragmentation Index in Sperm of Mature Mice

Background: One of the major factors affecting on male infertility is oxidative stress (OS). Two main sources of ROS production are leukocytes and spermatozoa. The ROS such as tertiary-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) may damage and fragmentate to sperm DNA, which can lead to complications in the offspring. In this study, we will investigate the effect of od on DNA fragmentation index (DFI) in sperm ...

Effects of salt stress on total lipid values, fatty acid profiles, omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9, in the brown algea Sargassum boveanum on Bushehr coast

Some algae are rich sources of various beneficial lipids and fatty acids. In recent years, several studies have been performed on algae to evaluate the effect of different salinity treatments on the quantity and quality of these lipids. The present study was performed to investigate the effect of different concentrations of sodium chloride on total lipid content, fatty acid profile, and omega-3...

Oxidative stress indices in rats’ lung tissues following simultaneous exposure to noise and styrene

Background: Simultaneous exposure to noise and organic solvents such as styrene is an indispensable part of today’s industries. Numerous studies were done related to ototoxic effects of co-exposure to noise and styrene while some evidences showed the adverse effects of such exposure on other organs. In this study, we aimed to assess the subacute effects of combined exposure to noise and s...
