Abstract:

Population structure of three kilka fishes (Clupeonella spp.), particularly anchovy kilka (C. engrauliformis), in Iranian waters of the Caspian Sea was surveyed in 2003. A total of 3230 biweekly samples were collected from commercially landed kilka at 3 stations in Mazandaran and Guilan provinces. Catch and effort statistics were obtained from the relevant organization. Results showed a great decline in the commercial kilka catch from 95000 tons in 1999 to 15497 tons in 2003. The contribution of anchovy kilka to the total kilka fishery also showed a decline from 71% in 1999 to 52.5% in 2003, while common kilka (C. cultriventris) increased from 13.7% in 1999 to 48.9% in 2003. Fork length range of anchovy kilka showed an increase from 89.2±12mm in 1999 to 100.4±4.9mm in 2003. The age composition of anchovy ranged between 1+ to 7+ years and the dominant group was 5+ years old (age group of 4+ and 5+ comprised 84.6% of population). The K value and L∞ calculated 0.598/year and 110.13 mm respectively. Natural, fishing and total mortality coefficient was estimated 0.69, 0.31 and 1 per year respectively. The results showed a sex ratio of F: M= 68.2: 31.8.

Analysis of fishing trend and prediction of fisheries potential based on catch data analyses (case study: the Caspian Sea)

The simple linear model and catch data from Caspian Sea during a decade were used to assess the state of the fishery in this region. Also fishery trends were analysed to determine the catch fluctuation during the period. Fishing potential of the species for the following year was predicted. Catch trend analyses of bony fishes showed incremental or decreasing patterns for different species. Howe...

The Trend Analysis and Forecasting of Extreme Temperature Parameters in southern part of the Caspian Sea

Increasing CO2 emissions and consequently, air temperature causes climate anomalies which affects all the aspects of human life. The purpose of this study was to assess the temperature changes and also to predict the extreme temperatures in Gilan and Mazandaran Provinces. To do this, the SDSM statistical and dynamical model was used. As well, it was applied the Mann-Kendal graphical and statist...

the effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

Stocks status of kilka in Iranian waters of the Caspian Sea

The present study considered the situation of kilka stocks in last decades by using overfished biomass threshold, fishing effort ratio and fishing mortality proxy during 1991-2010. The CPUE index of anchovy and mixed-species of kilka indicated an undepleted from 1991 to 2000. In 2000, the CPUE ratio declined to close to the “in danger” region, and subsequently collapsed to “overfished” region f...
