Assessing of the components levels of learning organization in educational hospitals in Isfahan, nurses' viewpoints

Introduction: The concept of learning organization and organizational learning has attracted the attention of researchers and managers of many organizations in recent years. Academic hospitals also need to follow the principles of the learning organization. The purpose of the present study is to determine the components of the learning organization from the viewpoint of nurses in academic hospitals. Methods: A descriptive-analytic study (correlational), the statistical population included nurses working in academic hospitals of University of Medical Sciences in 2017. Samples consisted of 190 nurses from 10 educational hospitals in Isfahan city by random sampling from each hospital and then random sampling in each hospital. The instrument for measuring this research is a two part questionnaire including the first part of demographic characteristics, and second part is The Learning Organization Questionnaire, developed by Peter Senge and colleagues, has 5 domains with 40 items. Data were analyzed by SPSS software using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (multiple linear regression analysis of Pearson correlation coefficient). Results: The present study showed that the average score of learning organization from nurses' point of view from academic hospitals was at moderate level. Amongst the domains of learning organization, pattern and mental model domain scored the highest mean (21.45) and shared vision and ideals domain (11.77) got the lowest mean score among the learning organization domains of academic hospitals. Also, there was no a significant relation between demographic characteristics except marital status and organizational learning score. Conclusion: The academic hospitals in 2017 were at moderate level in terms of organizational learning, which can lead to some kind of imbalance and dissatisfaction for the staffs in the changing circumstances of organizations.
